Welcome to the show.
Speaker ATired of the hype about living a dream?
Speaker AIt's time for truth.
Speaker AThis is the place for tools, power and real talk.
Speaker ASo you can create the life you dream and deserve your ultimate life.
Speaker ASubscribe, share, create.
Speaker AYou have infinite power.
Speaker AHello there.
Speaker AWelcome to this episode of your ultimate life.
Speaker AThis is a show dedicated to one thing, you helping you create what you want.
Speaker AAnd maybe you've already got everything you want.
Speaker AYou might be healthy, wealthy and wise right here, right now, or you might be in some other condition, I don't know.
Speaker ABut I want you to ask yourself right now, do you have the life condition you want?
Speaker AThe happiness, the purpose, the prosperity, the freedom, the joy?
Speaker APurpose, prosperity and joy are the three words that I use.
Speaker AMaybe you use freedom, wealthy, I don't know.
Speaker ABut you have it.
Speaker AThat's the key.
Speaker AThe words are whatever they are.
Speaker ABut do you have what you want?
Speaker AAnd you might think, well, nobody has everything they want.
Speaker AThat's not true.
Speaker AThat's not true.
Speaker AI live in purpose, prosperity and joy every day.
Speaker AReally.
Speaker AIt's not hype, not a bunch of junk.
Speaker AI do.
Speaker AI love every single day, every single thing that happens.
Speaker AI was just, you know, having a conversation with a car dealer, and there was a deal that went a little bit south.
Speaker AI mean, I had a old car, 2008, and we had a particular dealership, been servicing it for many years, and it's been in there, I don't know, 20 times or something over the years.
Speaker ASo they know everything about the car upside down and backwards.
Speaker AAnd they've asked me several times, because it's fairly popular car in terms of resale, if I wanted to sell it.
Speaker AAnd I hadn't until now.
Speaker ABut last week, my wife and I decided we'd sell it.
Speaker ASo we asked, we called him up, said, you know, what do you give for us?
Speaker AAnd of course it was less than we wanted, but whatever.
Speaker AAnd so we talked a little bit, and then we agreed on a number and we took it down there.
Speaker AAnd last Thursday, I'm recording this on a Monday.
Speaker AYou won't see it till the end of January, but the story's interesting.
Speaker ASo we made a deal.
Speaker AWe brought the registration and everything, signed it, it was a contract, gave it to them.
Speaker AThey said they'd have a check ready in a day or two.
Speaker ASo then all of a sudden, Friday, I was talking to him about getting some winter tires on our other car, and the guy got really nervous, said, oh, I can't do that deal.
Speaker AAnd it doesn't matter why.
Speaker ABut so over the weekend Joy and I were, you know, the point is, it's a situation that occurred that was not what we wanted.
Speaker ASo we could have been uptight and worried and freaked out and oh, no, what are we going to do with it?
Speaker AAnd we wanted to sell it.
Speaker AWe didn't want to keep paying insurance and put winter tires on that again also.
Speaker AAnd on and on and on.
Speaker ASo anyway, bottom line is, I said to myself this morning, as I did my two and a half hour morning ritual, we'll talk about that in a, in a minute.
Speaker ABecause today is creating alignment.
Speaker ABut let me finish the story.
Speaker ASo I thought, okay, it is going to be whatever it is they're going to do whatever they're going to do.
Speaker AAnd I am going to create miracles and magic from this situation.
Speaker ANot going to be uptight.
Speaker AI'm going to find out what the magic is in this mess.
Speaker ASo called him up this morning.
Speaker AI talked to the guy talked to for a few minutes, et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker AWe worked out a deal and we're fine.
Speaker AAnd so my point isn't the deal.
Speaker AMy point isn't the mistake.
Speaker AYou know, they realized they'd made a mistake in assessment of something and they shouldn't have because they had records of five years and 20 service visits, et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker ADoesn't matter.
Speaker AThe point is the attitude.
Speaker ASo I spent zero time, fussed about it.
Speaker AI spent no worry, everything was fine and it turned out fine.
Speaker AThat doesn't always happen.
Speaker ABut even if it hadn't, I still say, what is the magic from this mess?
Speaker AOr what is the magic from this mayhem?
Speaker AOr what magic can I create from this mud?
Speaker AMagnificence from the mud.
Speaker AAnd I believe that every problem has the seeds of a greater opportunity.
Speaker AAnd I'm not the first one to say that.
Speaker AThere's a quote that goes like that.
Speaker ASo today I want to talk about creating alignment.
Speaker AAnd that's why I mentioned it as I did my morning creation process.
Speaker AWhat is alignment?
Speaker AWell, first question is alignment with what?
Speaker ANow, if you've ever done anything like installed bookshelves or, you know, anything like that, you might probably use a level, right?
Speaker ABecause then you see, if you're level to the ground and that little bubble in there helps you know that level to the ground, you got it made, you're good.
Speaker AAnd you put in the brackets and hang it up and two or three shelves, you step back and oh, it's nice there it is done.
Speaker AWell, because your, your work was in alignment.
Speaker AYou had a level and you had the tools to make it line up properly so that it functioned like you meant it to, didn't look funny and didn't have things fall off of it.
Speaker AAll right, so my question about alignment is if you're going to create alignment, you got to know just intuitively that alignment creates better results.
Speaker AThink about a sports team right now as I record this, and when you hear it in January, it's going to be football season in the U.S.
Speaker Afootball season in Canada ended with the Gray Cup a little bit ago because it's a lot colder here, so they don't play in the wintertime.
Speaker AThey start a bit earlier.
Speaker AAnd the.
Speaker ATheir super bowl, it's called the Gray cup, is November.
Speaker ASo it was a couple of weeks ago, as I record this, a month and a half ago, as you hear it.
Speaker ASo anyway, the team that's in alignment, they know the goal.
Speaker AThey're trying to get the ball down the field, they're trying to get it over the goal line, they're trying to not, you know, get it intercepted, and they're trying to keep the other player from going.
Speaker ABut everybody's got clarity, not only about the overall goal of the team, but about their individual goal so that they are in alignment.
Speaker ALike the quarterback doesn't try to do blocking and usually.
Speaker AAnd, you know, and the end doesn't run and be the linebacker.
Speaker AI mean, you know, they don't do that.
Speaker ASo they can create some cohesive alignment.
Speaker ASo if I want you to think about alignment in your life, the in order to have an alignment, you have to have a goal, like the football team or the basketball team or the hockey team or whatever.
Speaker AThere's an alignment of purpose, making points, winning the game, moving toward a playoffs or championship or whatever.
Speaker ASo there's an alignment there.
Speaker AIf you don't know what your goals are, then you can't very well think about are my actions, is my calendar, my schedule, am I in alignment with what I'm trying to create?
Speaker AIt's just haphazard now.
Speaker AThat's, duh, obvious.
Speaker ABut I bet you, I betcha.
Speaker AAnd I see this over and over again.
Speaker APeople tell me, as a coach, I mean, I talk to tons of people, right?
Speaker ASo people tell me all the time I want to achieve.
Speaker AOften it's money.
Speaker AI need to make more money.
Speaker AMy business needs to make more money.
Speaker AI need to write this book, I need to sell some books.
Speaker AI need to get a promotion at work.
Speaker AI need, you know, it's money, money, money, money.
Speaker ASo the natural question, as a coach, just like an athlete, you Know if I'm working with an athlete and they say I need to get this time down in this event, then I say, okay, what's your goal?
Speaker AWhere are you now?
Speaker AWhat's your goal?
Speaker AWhat's the state record or world record, Olympic record?
Speaker AWhat are, what are they?
Speaker AWhat are we looking at here?
Speaker AOkay, good.
Speaker AThen we go over the practices.
Speaker AWhat are the best practices for that achievement?
Speaker ASo, for example, I have a client who owns a gym, and it is not just a 24 hour gym, it is that.
Speaker ABut it specializes on in people that are competing in competitions.
Speaker ASo they have all the supplements and they have routines and trainers and everything that are for, you know, people that are serious about this.
Speaker AYou know, the ones that are trying to compete in some competition, in order to do that, they have a whole set of things.
Speaker ACertain circuits, certain focus, leg day, back day, head day, not head day.
Speaker AYou know what I mean?
Speaker AThat's all obvious.
Speaker AAnd so when I have people come and they give me a goal, then I say, okay, what are you already doing to do that?
Speaker AWhat are you already doing?
Speaker AAnd so they'll list the things that they're trying and working.
Speaker AAnd then we get into this alignment issue.
Speaker AAre there things you're doing that are out of alignment, that are contrary, that take you somewhere, some goal, some direction not consistent with your stated goal?
Speaker AInevitably there are.
Speaker AAnd how slow the progress is, is directly proportional, obviously between, you know, the direction and how many things are out of alignment, how many things are not lined up with the goal they've declared, and that's not a surprise.
Speaker ANobody's going to think that's weird.
Speaker ASo getting, creating alignment is a process about defining a goal, looking at the actions that go to that goal, and then looking at your own performance.
Speaker ATime, energy, I call it tal time, attention and love.
Speaker AAnd what I mean by that is if I want to finish a song in the studio or I want to finish writing a book, how much time I spend on it is directly related to how quickly I can do it.
Speaker ABut that's not the only thing.
Speaker AIt's time, attention and love.
Speaker AAttention.
Speaker AAnd there are other words you can substitute and you'll think of your own.
Speaker AAs I do this.
Speaker AAttention is when I'm doing a thing.
Speaker AHow focused am I on that thing?
Speaker AIf I'm practicing, I'm trying to learn a song.
Speaker AMaybe I've already recorded it, but I'm trying to get it ready for performance.
Speaker AI've got a.
Speaker ATomorrow night I've got a coaching session with my coach, my vocal coach.
Speaker ASo I'm Working today and tomorrow on a particular song I want to work on and so forth.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker ABut if I'm working on that song and I'm thinking about something else, oh, I'm worried about that car thing I told you the story about, or worried about, you know, I'm worried about something else, then my attention is not all there.
Speaker AMy practicing isn't as good.
Speaker AMy focus is not clear.
Speaker ACan you have you.
Speaker AI'm sure you've done this.
Speaker AYou're thinking about one thing and doing something else, and you stumble, you drop something, you spill something.
Speaker AYou're driving distracted and you have a wreck.
Speaker AThose are.
Speaker AThat's a serious example.
Speaker ABut that's exactly the same thing.
Speaker ASo if I practice or if you practice or you're doing something and your attention is 100% all in, totally focused in flow right there, your practice is going to be ten times more effective.
Speaker AAnd what I mean by that is your retention is going to be way higher.
Speaker AYour ability to grow in whatever skill you're developing is way higher.
Speaker ASo people say practice makes perfect.
Speaker AAnd that's not really true by itself because you think hours on the piano bench, for me practicing, was that all my life?
Speaker AHours on the piano bench isn't directly correlated.
Speaker AIt's the.
Speaker AWhat's the quality of the hours on the bench?
Speaker AI think about raising your kids if you have them or how you were raised.
Speaker ATime spent is one thing.
Speaker AThe quality of the time, the focus, the attention, the love, the caring that changes the value of the time by 10 times.
Speaker ASo attention is the way I describe that.
Speaker AYou can call it focus, you can call it whatever you want.
Speaker ASo time and attention.
Speaker AThe third one I call love.
Speaker AAnd you can use whatever word again there you want, but that means the emotion, the intensity of my desire for the goal.
Speaker ASo I might be playing with my kid and I'm playing with the kid, but I'm.
Speaker AI'm not.
Speaker AI'm not happy about it.
Speaker AI'm frustrated.
Speaker AI let some other negative emotion come through, right?
Speaker AOr I'm trying to write a book and my attention's there.
Speaker AAnd I'm trying really hard to write, but I'm scared that my book will be stupid.
Speaker AAnd so the energy that I bring to the situation subtracts from my ability to get it done.
Speaker ASo if you're trying to create alignment, which is increase in power.
Speaker ASo if you want to get wealthy, you have to have alignment between your actions, your attitude, and your intention in order to make it quickly.
Speaker ASo if your actions are the ones that create wealth and your Attitude is I'm going to be wealthy.
Speaker AI know it.
Speaker AAnd you have the I love money.
Speaker ANot in a negative way because that goes to your intention, which is, you know, my intention right now is to reach 300 million people.
Speaker AYou know that.
Speaker AAnd the reason I'm trying to do that is I want you, right here, right now to understand you're a divine being and you have the ability to create anything you want.
Speaker AAny amount of money, any amount of influence, any amount of power.
Speaker AYou can do that.
Speaker ANow the road, if you have high goals, the road steeper.
Speaker ABut you can get there.
Speaker AIf your intention to do it is to be greedy, I'm not saying it is is to be greedy.
Speaker AIt's what's in it for me.
Speaker AI got this lorded over people.
Speaker AThen that is out of alignment.
Speaker ASo creating alignment has to do first with defining where you're going.
Speaker AI talk about this show as being, you know, your ultimate life purpose, prosperity and joy.
Speaker ADo you know where you're going?
Speaker AThis year's about to end.
Speaker ABy the time you hear this, it'll be January.
Speaker ASo the year just started.
Speaker AWhere are you going this year?
Speaker AWhat is 2025 about for you?
Speaker AIf you hear it five years from now, then it's in the past.
Speaker ABut what is this year about for you?
Speaker ADo you know I'm going to have a better year than last year?
Speaker AWhat does that even mean?
Speaker ABe really clear.
Speaker AAlignment responds powerfully to clarity.
Speaker AIf you know exactly where you're going, it's easier to get there.
Speaker ASo a funny example we got Joy and I have a vacuum cleaner that needs to be worked on.
Speaker AIt's a Dyson and that's a particular brand and apparently there many vacuum shops won't work on them.
Speaker AAnd so I was looking up a vacuum cleaner place here in Edmonton that would work on them and I found a place that one of the testimonials was the other vacuum shop wouldn't even look at my Dyson and my ears perked up, right?
Speaker ABut this one, they did it, they fixed it.
Speaker ABlah blah blah blah blah.
Speaker ASo that was like okay, cool.
Speaker ASo then yesterday, yesterday was Sunday.
Speaker AJoy and I, after church we took a little detour going home and we drove right where that vacuum cleaner place is.
Speaker ASo we knew, even though I knew it was closed on Sunday.
Speaker ANow I don't go to the store on Sunday anyway just because I Sabbath is day of rest.
Speaker ABut so anyway we drove there.
Speaker AWe know exactly where it is that creates an alignment.
Speaker ASo when I get ready to take the vacuum another day this week Maybe day, maybe today, maybe tomorrow.
Speaker ABecause I'm recording this on a Monday, I know right where it is.
Speaker AMy purpose, my focus is aligned.
Speaker AWhat does that do?
Speaker AI get there faster, I get there with less problems.
Speaker AI know right where I'm going.
Speaker AI have a clear and totally focused intention.
Speaker ANow, I know those are silly examples, but they apply to everything.
Speaker AThey apply to everything you're doing.
Speaker ASo here's my heartfelt wish for you.
Speaker AAnd then we're going to talk about how to do some of this.
Speaker AGet really clear about what 2025 is for you.
Speaker AAnd if you hear this in a year that doesn't make sense, then whatever your next 90 days is like, what is your first quarter?
Speaker AWhat is your next 90 days going to look like?
Speaker AWhat is it going to create for you?
Speaker AAre you going to create more money?
Speaker AAre you going to fix a relationship?
Speaker AAre you going to get out of the hospital?
Speaker AAre you going to change the way you eat?
Speaker AAre you going to get rid of an old habit?
Speaker AMaybe you drink too much.
Speaker AI used to do that.
Speaker ADrugs and drinking used to be a real problem.
Speaker ASo that was a clear and present goal for me at one time.
Speaker AIt's been many years now, but it used to be.
Speaker AAnd it was a very clear goal because it was wrecking my life.
Speaker ASo what is your goal?
Speaker AWhat is the next 90 days about?
Speaker AThat's step one.
Speaker AWrite it down.
Speaker ABe absolutely clear.
Speaker AIf it's making more money, you're selling real estate, you're going to sell how many houses and create how much money in commissions?
Speaker ASo that's clear.
Speaker AAnd don't be.
Speaker ADon't put a range, don't put.
Speaker AWell, maybe I hope it's this much.
Speaker AThat's garbage.
Speaker AIt doesn't do anything.
Speaker AIt doesn't mean anything.
Speaker ASet a number, then work backwards.
Speaker ASay, okay, what are the actions of a person, a successful real estate person, that will sell that many properties, that accumulative value, if you're working on percent commission.
Speaker ASo what are the actions?
Speaker AAnd you'll know right away if it's something you already do.
Speaker AHow many contacts, how many listings do you need, how much time do I need to spend looking for buyers, and whatever the actions are to do that.
Speaker AI write books and do music and coach clients.
Speaker ASo I know how many hours it takes to write a book, how many hours to edit, how much time in the studio, how much time it takes speaking to people to find those that are anxious to improve.
Speaker AMy work as a coach is as a facilitator, an encourager.
Speaker ASometimes the knowledge that A client seeks is exactly what I have.
Speaker ASometimes it's not.
Speaker AI have a client right now that's in the nonprofit business.
Speaker AThey help people create nonprofits.
Speaker AI don't know anything about creating a nonprofit.
Speaker AI do know a lot about running people, about management, leadership, business, P&LS.
Speaker AI know a lot about that.
Speaker ASo depending on what the goals are, I may or may not know exactly what they need to do in terms of mechanics.
Speaker ABut the most important thing is that piece of alignment.
Speaker ASo as you think about your goal, number one, be absolutely clear.
Speaker ADo what by when.
Speaker AAnd that's two simple questions.
Speaker ADo what by when?
Speaker ASo be really clear about the what precisely.
Speaker AAnd exactly what are you going to get done?
Speaker AWhat will your bank account look like?
Speaker AWhat will your body look like if you're getting in a different shape?
Speaker AWhat will your relationship be like?
Speaker AHow will you know?
Speaker AAnd then the buy when is not a range, It's a date.
Speaker AMarch 31st.
Speaker ABy March 31st, I will have $50,000 in my bank that is unencumbered.
Speaker ANo debt, clear, free, and all my bills will be paid otherwise.
Speaker AThat's the goal.
Speaker AThat's clear.
Speaker A50,000 unencumbered dollars.
Speaker AMarch 31st.
Speaker ANow, that may or may not make sense for you as a goal, but it's an idea of something completely specific.
Speaker AI'll have a book done, edited up on Amazon, and run a bestseller campaign by similar date, March 31st.
Speaker AThat's a clear and specific goal.
Speaker AOkay, then the next step is if you're creating alignment with which is the most powerful condition in which you can create the results you want is where am I now?
Speaker AI have an outline of the book done.
Speaker AI don't have an outline of the book done.
Speaker AI have an idea for the book.
Speaker AI have 10 words written, I have an outline, and I have two chapters like, where am I now?
Speaker ARight now, one of two things is true.
Speaker AEither you've done what you're trying to do before or you haven't.
Speaker AIf you've done it before or something very close to it, then you have a pretty good idea of what it takes to get from where you're at to where you want to be.
Speaker AAnd then so you know the steps, you know the process, you know the roadblocks, barriers, the challenges.
Speaker AYou know that if you haven't done it before or something quite similar, then you don't know those things.
Speaker AYou can make them up.
Speaker ABut that doesn't have to stay a mystery because there's somebody that's done it.
Speaker AThere's someone that has done it before and because they have, you can find out like information is free.
Speaker AHear that again.
Speaker AInformation is free.
Speaker AWhat's not free is courage, encouragement, staying motivated, discipline.
Speaker AThose things are not free.
Speaker AThey may or may not cost money, but they certainly cost intention, alignment, willpower framework, coaching.
Speaker AThey cost something.
Speaker AIf you don't know how to do something, I guarantee you can figure out how to do it looking it up online.
Speaker AIt didn't used to be true.
Speaker ALike, you know, 30 years ago that wasn't true.
Speaker AYou couldn't find out how to do lots of things really, or it was very difficult.
Speaker AToday with the Internet, you can find out how to do anything.
Speaker AThe question is, are you in alignment, meaning your time, your attention and your love or intention, are they clearly focused on that now what gets in the way of having time is clear.
Speaker APeople tell me, you know, this is important to me, I really want to get this money made or this book done.
Speaker AAnd I believe them.
Speaker ABut then I say, show me your calendar and show me your bank account and I'll tell you what's important to you because that's where it's most accurately reflected.
Speaker AThat assumes, of course, the calendar fills in with exactly what you do.
Speaker AShow me your calendar and show me your bank account and I'll tell you what's important.
Speaker AIf you want to create alignment between your desires, the things you say you want or think you want, and the results that are living in your life, what you're experiencing, the money, the joy, the purpose, the focus, the relationship that in having that in reality from where you are right now that we need to look, you need to look at what how you're spending your time, attention and love or intention.
Speaker AA calendar is easy to fix if you, if you're going to do a new thing, you need to figure out how many hours it takes and then put 5 hours or 3 hours or 10 hours a week in the calendar in a different color as a block.
Speaker AThat's the step one and it's tiny, but it's daunting.
Speaker ANext, you need to make sure that you are either spending time or you have the resources to find out any how pieces you don't know.
Speaker ATime to do that also comes in your calendar or it's part of what you just put in there.
Speaker AWhat I found, this is what Kellen found.
Speaker AThe most important is to get coaching.
Speaker AAnd the reason is because it's really hard when you're going to do a brand new thing or redo a better version of something you've done before.
Speaker AIt's hard to do it alone.
Speaker AWe get discouraged.
Speaker AWe get frustrated.
Speaker AWe believe we're not good enough.
Speaker AWe're afraid that we'll be judged.
Speaker AWe are so terrified of judgment and rejection.
Speaker ANot good enough.
Speaker AIt's beat into us almost from the cradle.
Speaker ASchool grades, friends, jobs, failures, betrayals, embarrassments.
Speaker AAll of that, you know, beats that fear into us that we're not enough.
Speaker AAnd that shows up in procrastination.
Speaker AIt shows up in the stories.
Speaker AIt won't matter anyway.
Speaker AI can't do it.
Speaker ANot good enough.
Speaker AWho will read it?
Speaker AWho will care?
Speaker AIf I'm at work, my boss won't notice.
Speaker AIt won't matter that I do this extra work and show up powerfully.
Speaker AIt won't matter anyway.
Speaker AI won't get anything for it.
Speaker AAnd that's, you know, the stories we have about that, they're not true, but we have them.
Speaker ASo the reason I found that coaching is the most important resource for me, you know, you'll do what you want.
Speaker AIs that's a place where I can tell the truth.
Speaker AIt's a place where I can be honest about what's going on inside of me, including the fear, including the doubts, including the struggles, including the failures, including the stories.
Speaker AAnd sometimes just the act of speaking those things out loud helps me reframe them and realize, okay, this is a crock.
Speaker AI'm not doing this.
Speaker AI'm not living in this motion of fear.
Speaker AI'm not living in this story of failure.
Speaker AI'm not doing that anymore.
Speaker AAnd I have someone then I can talk to to help hold me accountable.
Speaker ALike I mentioned, I have a lesson with my vocal coach tomorrow.
Speaker ASo what am I doing?
Speaker AI'm practicing.
Speaker AHave been for the last many days, since last lesson.
Speaker ABecause I'm going to go there and perform, sing, try different techniques, you know, to elevate the performance.
Speaker AWhy?
Speaker ABecause I have a goal.
Speaker AThese exercises help me move the goal.
Speaker AThose principles are true for everything that you're going to accomplish.
Speaker ANow, if I fail or you fail, it is because there is a failure in alignment or there's a failure in perseverance.
Speaker APerseverance we'll talk about another time.
Speaker ABut I can be perfectly aligned, having all my attention, my time, attention and love focus there.
Speaker AAnd I still fail.
Speaker ASo that doesn't mean you won't fail.
Speaker AIt means that your period of failure will be shorter.
Speaker AIt means you'll have more courage to get up and go after it again.
Speaker ASo every failure works to your benefit.
Speaker ASo I'm not promising.
Speaker AAlignment prevents failure.
Speaker AWhat I'm saying is, when you have alignment.
Speaker AFailure is a so what deal.
Speaker ALiterally, it's like, okay, that didn't work.
Speaker AOne of the terrible stories about failure is when I fail, it means I'm bad.
Speaker AThat story can be overwhelming and cause us to quit business, love, money, writing a book, being alive, even.
Speaker AThe truth is, failure is just an interesting data point.
Speaker AIt doesn't mean anything about you personally.
Speaker AIt simply means that thing I did didn't work.
Speaker AThat's all it means.
Speaker AIt's no reflection on you.
Speaker AI might have believed it would work.
Speaker AI might have been told it would work, and it didn't.
Speaker AIt's not a reflection on the person that told you.
Speaker AThey probably weren't trying to hurt you.
Speaker AIt's not a reflection on you as a person.
Speaker AIt's simply a truth.
