THE IDENTITY YOU BUILT TO SURVIVE IS KILLING YOUR FUTURE

THE IDENTITY YOU BUILT TO SURVIVE IS KILLING YOUR FUTURE

Your survival identity got you through the worst moments of your life — but now it’s killing your future. In this raw solo episode, Kellan dismantles the lie that you are broken, unworthy, or too damaged to rise. He exposes how shame becomes an identity, how stories become prisons, and how pretending “everything is fine” keeps you stuck exactly where you don’t want to be.

This is not a motivational message.

This is a spiritual intervention.

You’ll discover why we cling to old versions of ourselves long after the threat is gone, why transformation begins with telling the truth, and how reclaiming your worth is the foundation of rebuilding your life from the inside out.

If you’ve ever felt trapped by your past, defined by your pain, or haunted by who you used to be… this episode will crack open the doorway to a future you can finally walk into.

  • Why your survival identity becomes your prison
  • The difference between being broken vs. believing you’re broken
  • How shame rewires your story
  • The lie of “nothing is wrong with me”
  • Self-betrayal as an addiction
  • Why healing requires brutal honesty
  • How to stop running from your own reflection
  • Rebuilding identity through truth, love, and choice
  • The quiet power of owning your story
  • Why you are not your past — and never were

What are you going to do with the next year of your life? Let's talk about it, because it matters and it starts mattering right now. Welcome to the show. Tired of the hype about living a dream? It's time for truth. This is the place for tools, power and real talk. So you can create the life you dream and deserve your ultimate life. Subscribe, share, create. You have infinite power. Welcome to this episode of your ultimate life. And you know what it made me think of?This question about what are you going to do with this year of your life? Is the fact that day before yesterday, today's episodes released on the 12th of December. So day before yesterday, on the 10th, I just turned 70, holy moly. And I'm thinking, 70 years now what? Well, that's an interesting question. Now what?I know people, and so do you that are 70, maybe even starting at 65 or 72 or whatever, and they just kind of quote, retire. And I don't, I've never really understood what that word meant. I didn't know when I thought about.Retirement, you know, and when I was younger, 30s and 40s and stuff, everybody in the companies that I worked for talked about retirement. They're going to retire and then they're going to do this and that. And I never thought about retirement very much because I wasn't sure what that meant. I'm a very active person and I love doing things. And so what I always ask myself is, why would I, like, work really hard and, quote, do something so I can then retire and do, I don't know what I really want to do? I mean, that was the stupidest thought. I thought, okay, I'm going to wait till I'm a lot older and then I'm going to start doing what I want.Well, that's what the ultimate life is all about. What if you knew you could start doing what you wanted to do in your life right now? What if it's possible to do that now?You know, what if it really is? Like, you can do that? Why not? Like, what prevents you.The only thing that prevents you from living like you want to right now is the story that you can't. The idea that it's not possible. Now, you're going to come up with a lot of explanations about, well, I don't have any money, I got to keep working and I don't know if I like my job and I hate this and that and I gotta this and I gotta that, and I've got all these obligations. I'm not saying quit that I'm not saying, you know, walk away from all the commitments you've made.If you have obligations, I'm really sad for you because the word obligation, Oh, I have to do that. Every time you or I think about the word obligation, it carries with it the seeds of resentment.Because what the word obligation also implies is, I have to do this, and I'd really rather be doing something else. How sad is that? Like, what would your life be like if you lived every day doing only what you wanted to do?Now, if you think about that, what you might be saying is, well, I could only do that if I had a whole bunch of money so I didn't have to work. That's actually not true.Because if you don't know right this minute what you really want to do, and I don't mean sit on the beach and drink Mai tais and take vacation and travel around the world, that stuff you can do for a while. But it gets old, old, old. There is a yearning in your heart to do something, to be something, to matter, to make a difference. There is, and you know it, and you feel it. And what you've probably told yourself is that you can't live like that. And the truth is, you can. You can live like that right now.If you want to make it happen. So let's talk about what it is to get that done, shall we? Because the whole purpose of this podcast, your ultimate life, is to teach you.How to live a life of purpose, prosperity, and joy. So. Think about this for a minute. What would make it possible like, you think you're going to.Maybe if you inherited a bunch of money, you could do that. Well, I want to throw that whole notion in the garbage. How many people win the lottery and then go broke, waste all the money, or they end up, you know, addicted or lose it or what, you know, bad investments? How many people inherit a bunch of money and do the same thing? Trust fund babies and all the rest? The percentage of people that somehow come into a bunch of money and are then happy is really tiny. The ones that are happy are people who are doing what they feel called to do in life. Yes, you have a calling. Yes, you have a purpose. And if you don't know what it is, I'm sad. Because you can know. It is not hidden. And it does not come in an Amazon box. And you don't need to go on a safari to find it.You know, somewhere in the desert or in a jungle or whatever it is inside of you, it came with you. And you were given the gifts and talents to not only accomplish that mission, but to have fun doing it.So my birthday two years ago, what I realized now, as I start the next decade, the year ending this, when I realize it doesn't start till after this year. But anyway, so it's. It's just an opportunity beyond measure.I was just on the phone with someone I hadn't seen for a long time, several years, and they moved from the United States to Spain. And it was just delightful to see him again. He'd reached out to me and said, hey, we need to catch up. We haven't talked for a while. And I was just thrilled and delighted to catch up with him and to hear what he's doing. And he's doing some cool stuff over there. And he found a woman that he loved and they're married and have been for a little while, and it's just a magical situation for him. So he is living in a happy place, doing what he wants, and I was excited. But then it got me thinking. As I prepared for this podcast episode, he asked me what I'm doing. And the answer is, I'm doing exactly what I want to do. Shall I tell you what I do? Every day?I get up and I spend two and a half hours in a morning ritual, morning routine. I call it a daily creation process. I create myself every day, remembering I'm a son of God. I have mission and purpose on the earth.I discuss what it is.I've talked about my personal truth document before, so I'm not going to recite any of it here, but it guides every single day, even the days when I'm playing and relaxed and on vacation. My vacation is also part of my ultimate life, but it isn't a break from my life so I can have fun.All of that is part of the life of purpose, prosperity, and joy. And I can't say it loud enough. You can have your ultimate life. It is possible for you, and it's here, and you might be here. Maybe you're living it.I won't know that. But if you're not, and it feels like, ah, I can't get there, you can, and there is a road. What I discover is most people aren't willing to do what it was required to walk that road. It's too hard. It requires too much choice, too much sovereignty. I have to own my time, my calendar, my life. I have to even know where I'm going.I ask most people, what do you want to do? And most of them can't even tell me Other than I want a lot of money and I don't want to have to do anything and I don't want to have to work. And, you know, that's garbage. You know, that is mindless answers without thinking. We are built to love and to serve each other. The people that I have met over and over again, repeatedly, that are the happiest, are busy doing good, adding good to the world in their own unique way, with their own gifts and talents, in their own expression, not in some way I define. We are built both physically and spiritually to be active, to love, to serve, to create, and to maximize our gifts and talents and add good to the world. And the struggle that people keep having is the idea that they can't make a living doing that. And that's just not true. It's easier today than it has ever been in the history of the world to make a living doing almost anything. Almost anything. Okay. The issue is, are you willing to get really good at what you do so people will pay you to do it?Now, you see this manifest all the time. In things like YouTube influencers, right? And now there's TikTok and Instagram and stuff like that. Started with YouTube influencers.People that would gather followings of a thousand or ten thousand or one hundred thousand or a million or several million followers that are interested in what they do. And you look at that and say, wish I could do that. Well, you know, there's a really popular YouTube guy, Mr. Beast. You probably know who he is.I've known him for many years. I've seen him speak. I've emceed at conferences where he was. And I know him. I know how he got where he is. I know what he's done.I know the story from the beginning. And now he's the most. Maybe the most influential video personality in the world. And he built that on purpose by doing what he wants and by insisting on excellence over and over again. How do I do this better? How do I serve people more, make them laugh more, have fun more? And now he does outrageous things like donate.Buy cars and donate them or buy the entire contents of a store and has crazy contests of, you know, seeing how long people can hang or stand in a circle or do, you know, other crazy things. It's entertaining and it's fun. And he gives boatloads of cash to good causes. I know he does that, and I know him. And so my point is, he's not unique.Well, he is unique. He's very, very, very unique. And the reason is because he's dedicated and committed. He isn't unique in his ability to do that. You can live the ultimate life. If I ask you right now, what is your ultimate life? I'll bet you don't know. I'll bet you don't know my mission. And if I'm wrong, hey, yell at me in silent. The orbit leaves a comment, Tell me I'm stupid, I don't care. But what I want to know is, what is it? And are you truly doing what you want to do?So as I had this chance to visit with this friend today, you know, ask me what I'm doing, and I'm writing books, you know, I've got two that I'm finishing this year, got two more on tap for next year. I've got a whole bunch of songs that I record. I sing, I speak, I. What do I sing and speak about? Your ultimate life?I sing and speak about how you have the capability to do whatever you want. It's not going to be instantaneous. It never is. You know, we live in a world that lies to us. Everything's quick, right? Download and double click. And it's just not true. Nothing grows that way. This background behind me is crazy colors, but it's a picture taken outside our old house in Phoenix. And all the palm trees are there in the. In the. In the large street that comes into this large developed area, you know, planned community that we lived in.And I did the background switch with color changes and stuff like that. But anyway. You have the ability to live in paradise every day. You have the ability to feel like you're in paradise every day and to love your life.So let me tell you what I'm thinking about 70 years and just getting started. Now what? Well, now what? Well, this year I'm going to write some more books. This year I'm going to keep going with this podcast and the new one I just started in September, that's coaches. Two coaches that I'm interviewing, talking about AI.I'm going to start a university next year, a university aimed at training coaches who want to be in the 5%. 95% of coaches won't be able to make a living. So I'm going to create a university aimed at helping people understand and develop. What's left after AI gets in full power and is blowing coaching out of the water. That's built on frameworks and questions and, you know, hacks. All that stuff that passes for coaching these days, that's all going to be gone and there won't be. Any space Left, you'll all have to find something else to do or change how coaching is. And that's what the book Coaching and the Rise of AI is about. So here's the thing. In the next the rest of the show, I'm going to tell you what I've learned.I'm going to tell you what's next in this year and how you can claim the next chapter of your ultimate life, whatever it is that looks like. Okay, so here's what I've learned. In the last 18 years I've lived 70. The first 52 years of my life were without real direction.I was raised in a particular way, forced me in my mind, into a certain path and it was miserable for me. You probably can resonate with that. Maybe you had a difficult upbringing too, or maybe you didn't.But we're all indoctrinated with this idea of what we're supposed to do, how we're supposed to live life, supposed to, supposed to. Inside we're feeling like, yeah, but, yeah, but I don't want to do that. And then we think somehow there's something wrong with that and we can't.And all the rest, that's just a crock. You are blessed with gifts and talents. I know that. I died in 2018 and had three conversations with God at the door between life and eternity. And of course, I wrote a couple books about that visit. One, it's called one, the first book's called Meeting God at the Door. Conversations, Choices and Commitments of a Near Death Experience. It reinforced what I'd been doing the 11 years before that since my life changed radically in 2007 and I started on a new path, no longer living into the expectations of others, but discovering who I wanted to be. I invite you to do that. It takes introspection and real work. Because when we just do what we're, quote, supposed to do, it won't last. It's not fulfilling. We have to each one of us come to grips with the yearnings of our own heart. That's not selfishness. It's discovering who you are and then declaring that you're going to live your life. In that process and in the service of that. And it's easy to say that.People can say, well, you know, and people think of selfishness, well, I just want to have everything easy. No, you don't. You know what? You and I are built to love and serve. And if your life's been hard, and maybe it has, I sure had my share.Up to when I was 50, our first inclination is, oh, crap, if I could just get rid of all this hard stuff, no more bills, no more hassle, no more problems, no more this, that and the other. Everything would be beautiful. And the answer is for a minute, for a minute it is. And very quickly after that, it's like. What am I here to do?You hear people talk about that all the time. Something happens in their life and they get to a place and say, is that all there is? Well, I certainly got there. So I'm grateful.I'm grateful for the 50 years I had wandering around in the wilderness following someone else's life plan. I'm grateful for the explosion and destruction and collapse that happened in 2007, 18 years ago.And I'm super grateful for the reinvention and claiming the purpose of life since then. Okay? And I, you know, I had a near death experience, a couple of failed suicide attempts and those kinds of things, and hopefully everybody doesn't need that big of a wake up call. The reason I've dedicated my life to what I'm doing now, writing books and coaching and helping and loving you right this minute, I love you to pieces and serving, is because I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful. You don't have to do. The same. You don't have to get run over by 8 buses like I did. You don't have to have all the desperate experiences. And you know what I notice? I interview a lot of people for this show. You've seen them. I notice that nearly everyone I interview has a bunch of stuff they've been through.Personal health wise, relationship wise, money wise, whatever, maybe several things. And when they get through to the other side, they have a story to tell. And when I ask them what they're doing, oh, I'm trying to help people avoid the misery and pain that I had. I'm trying to help people learn what I learned sooner and faster.I'm trying to compress the learning curve for people, whether it's business, whether it's writing books, I help people write books. Or whether it's just living your life with purpose and joy.One of the things I've developed is a proprietary method to help business owners radically increase top line revenue and profit and at the same time reducing overhead, fixed cost and risk. You know what that means? More money in your pocket. Now when you hear more money, ooh, cash.We used to be of the mind of, oh, good, then I can do what I want and buy what I want. And when we get a few more years under our belt, then it's you know what? Then I can be more effective at loving and serving and giving and blessing because we start to realize, you know what? I am really here to love and serve. And that has hit me so hard. So I don't care how old you are. I just turned 70. If you're breathing, you're not done.If you're breathing, you're not done. Okay? And I don't care if you have a limp like I do, or if you have some, you know, diffugal these with your body. So what? You're here to love and serve. So let's talk about what's next. Everything that I am today comes from saying yes when it would have been easier to quit. It's been a million times when it's easier to quit. I know you felt that too. So let's not. Excuse me. Wow, sneezing. Maybe that was supposed to be in there too. So here's my new mission this year.Last year I had a. A goal to reach 300 million people with this show.LA Talk Radio show, my books, the seminars I've spoken at, the 600 podcasts I've been on and the places I've spoke, all of that. So I was to reaching them and LA talk radio and all that stuff. I was trying to reach people. What was I trying to reach him with?Well, with the message of purpose, prosperity and joy. Not to say, yeah, I have it, look at me, I don't care about that. But to say, you can have it. Let me show you how. This year it's still 300 million, but I've changed the focus from just reaching to nurturing, nurturing 300 million people to understand five things. W, I, P, O, S. Well, W stands for your worth. You're a divine being created by God, so you're of infinite worth. And sometimes we think, how come he lets me have all this tough crap? You know, it's part of the development, it's part of the game. I haven't found any use in screaming at God and claiming it's unfair. What I have found use in is leaning on the divine for support and using every challenge as a teacher. The I stands for identity, which ties into your worth.Because when you deeply own your identity, that you're a child of God, the divine, the creator, the universe, you know, when you. When you realize you're an intentional creation, wow. It changes for me at least every way I think about stuff, even rough stuff that's happening. The P W, I P stands for possibility. You and I have divine DNA woven into us. Now, we all know what DNA is.It says that I'm losing my hair and it says that my eyes are the color that they are in yours too. And that says that you know, whatever else, how tall I am and all the rest.Your DNA is divine also, which means you have the seeds of God in you, which means you have infinite possibility. And yet we all are limiting ourselves. Kind of like the tip of an iceberg. We've been living on that one tenth of possibility and the 90% below the surface. So my goal in the nurture is to help you wake up to that fact and then give you the method to use it.So the message is what I did last year, the method is this year, the method. How do you create your ultimate life? The O stands for ownership. There's nobody that's going to do this for you. You own the process. You own the truth.Whether you use discipline or not, or whether you set a goal or not, whether you lean into your divine nature or not, you own that. And the S stands for sovereignty is you're the ruler. One of the things we love to do is get buried in excuses. Well, I'll speak for me. I used to.I used to love to get buried in excuses. Blaming others, the world, the government, something, them that out there and externalize everything. And I've realized now that it's all mine.I create my being and I call into existence every part of my experience. Now, that might scare the crap out of you to start with. And some people say, oh, you mean I called into my life that accident or the rainstorm that made my roof leak or the hurricane? You know, I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is there's a boatload of crap that just happens around us. And I don't control what the weather is.If I did and everybody else did, you know, we'd all have our own individual weather. In a sense, we do.Let me tell you how if it rains and you and I are in the same rainstorm, I can be mad because it wrecked my golf game and you can be excited because it's making your garden grow. Like, we can each have the same circumstance and have a different life experience. So that's true for everything. Even difficult things.I want you to hear that. Even difficult things. So about two years and a half ago, I. Had damaged OR my.The disc between L5 and S1 on my lower back had been deteriorating for some time. But it got bad enough. Now that it really has pinched the nerve. And so in the last Two and a half years.I have a lot of pain, a lot of, you know, physical therapy and, you know, they're looking at this and that. I have sometimes cortisone shots every quarter, and they're looking at more detailed stuff. The bottom line is I walk with a cane and it hurts a lot.And now it's on both sides, starting about seven or eight months after the first one. So almost two years now on both sides. So I could be mad or think I'm somehow debilitated, and I don't buy it for a second. Yeah, I have a limp.Yeah, I have struggles. I'm 70. I could say, you know what? I'm tired. I'm gonna wind down. No, I'm winding up because I want to.Because what this has all taught me is anything is possible. I can love you just as fiercely as I can without a limp.Maybe even more so because I have more empathy and love for any struggle that you might be having. Okay, so you and I, we get to choose our experience. And the experience I choose with limping and using a cane is one of joy.I get to breathe, I'm here to love you. I get to experience the fact that it's getting cold in Edmonton now because we're in the frozen north, right? And I choose to love it every day just because I can. Bitterly complaining at people, at God, at the weather, at the economy, at the president or the prime minister. It doesn't do anything except make us rage against what is. So I choose to have a wonderful day every day, even with the limps that I have. All right, so there's another thing to think about now.Let's talk about the university. I'm launching a university next year. Why would I do that? Well, I told you, I just finished the book Coaching in the Rise of AI.By the time you hear this, it'll be out.I encourage you to look it up if you do anything that even resembles coaching, because it not only says boldly, 95% of coaches will be out of work, it says what to do about it. Because the process of being a guide, a mentor, a sounding board, a place of encouragement and love, that need isn't going to go away. AI can't bleed. It can't create emotion. It can't create the human connection. There's nothing AI can do that equals sitting with someone quietly or someone just listening to you. And, yeah, you can talk to Chatty and it'll say cool things back, but it's not the same as having a human spirit together. So the power of coaching is actually going to go up more and coaches are going to be better paid and higher demand, but only those that are willing to to be different than they are now. Because coaching mostly. Now, I've been through many coaching academies and programs. They're useless in the light of AI.I don't mean the principles are wrong. The principles are right. But unless they're accompanied or applied with the truth of human connection, they're useless. And now the only thing that's left that coaches can do, me or you, is we can be the truth of what we teach. If I just talk about principles, we're dead. We're dead because AI can do that faster and better and in better language, quite frankly. So unless I live, I am the embodiment of what I teach, I'm going to be out of work. So that's the reason I'm starting university, is to help people both understand that and then learn how to do it.In the book, I propose a new coaching methodology called the Triple Helix Coach. And it's very specific and very different than anything that is being taught now.And in researching the book, I did an AI analysis of 11 coaching models.I'm not saying that's all of them, but 11 models that I know right now and asked AI how vulnerable they were and all the rest and it did a great job and it scared the crap out of me. And then I put in the Triple Helix model, how it works and what I teach and everything else and ask for the same analysis. And I was delighted, I was delighted to say it said zero vulnerability. Now I'm, I, I realize those AIs are programmed, at least most of them, to be very encouraging and nice, so I ask it not to.In fact, I directed it in rather harsh language, no bs, et cetera, et cetera, and still came back and told me with a whole list of rationale. So I'm really excited about the Triple Helix coaching methodology. So that's another thing that I'm doing. There's a business acceleration piece, cash clarity Creation, that has to do with what I said, increasing top line revenue and decreasing costs. Wow, who doesn't need that? I have a book creation part which is like the challenges that I've been running. You want to get your book done, you know you have a story worth writing. I do too. But most people don't make money selling books. So what you need to do is not only create the book, but create the product behind it.Whether it's a do it yourself passive income product or some kind of a group product or coaching product. You can make money doing that and you can make a great living if you want to. And the university is all part of that. It's not really just a school. It is an awakening. It is a fierce faith forge for those willing to walk. Because the change that's going to have to happen in coaching is fierce and not trivial. It's going to challenge you to the core of your soul. So I encourage you to get a hold of me if you want to. The URL right here.Kellen flukegar Media at the top, there's a contact form if you'd like to talk about it, about what I've said in the book or what's going on or buy the book or if you'd like to argue with me, that's fine too. Love to get to know people, because I love you. So here's what else I'm doing. I wrote Coaching and the Rise of AI.It's coming out this week after, after I record this. And you'll, you'll see it in. It'll already be out by the time you see this episode in December. Here is the thing. It really is talking about the rise and the power of the human spirit in the age of machines. Now, we've all seen the books and movies, you know, Skynet and the Terminator series and people have talked about even now where, you know, you hit to the singularity where machines can teach themselves and then they get to infinite intelligence and pretty soon they're, you know, generative intelligence, AGI, artificial general intelligence or generative intelligence, where it's not just a reflector. See, right now the thing we're calling AI is not intelligent. It is a fabulous reflector researcher who collater. It writes really well, although it has a particular style and you come to recognize it really quick. Unless you train it to write differently, which you can do easily, but it does what you tell it to and it's unbelievably good at it.Like I said, it researches incredibly well and collates and summarizes and you know, I use it for all kinds of stuff. And you should too. If you're not, you're leaving money on the table and wasting a lot of time. And why would you do that? But the thing that AI cannot do is replicate the soul. And if your soul is not in your coaching, you're dead, you're out of work. You have to transcend information. The idea up to now for most coaches is I'm going to have walk this process with you ask these questions, do these check sheets, do this kind of thing, and then you're going to have some insights and you're going to realize what you got to do. And that is talking about that thing over there. Unless you have bled on the floor and walked the road, your coaching will be useless. You can only coach what you have experienced. You can only coach where you have been. You can only coach what you know in the future. I mean, starting right now, frankly. And if you don't realize and get into that truth right now, you'll be out of work. Then you'll be wondering what to do with yourself. And when you start, start to change, it's going to be too late. Start now.Own the truth of your life. The most important gift you have to give me and anyone else is the story of your own becoming. The battle, the challenge, the growth, the, you know, the path you've walked, the discoveries, those are what you really have to offer. Anything else, you're just a library. A collation of library and chat does that better than anyone. Better, way better than you do or me.You know, the Internet democratized information and AI is democratizing expertise. Everybody can have it. So if that's all you've provided, you're out of at of work. So there's another book at the end of December that I'm doing.I've said what I'm doing this year. And it'll be out now in about three weeks from when you have this. It's called Masterpiece. Masterpiece. Okay. And the subtitle is Seize the day, live your purpose and change the world. The reason I'm writing that is to emphasize the truth of your ability to change the world. But it's not an accident. It's not something that's going to do itself. You and I have the ability to change the world for the better. And you might think, as I used to, I'm only one little person in one little corner. What can I do? Well, the first thing we do is start with ourselves. We become, as Gandhi said, the change we want to see. Not well, I'm a good person.I'm talking about a visible, vibrant, powerful, unignorable beacon of light, vessel of love and conduit of power. Then when you enter a room, you can change the conversation just by walking in the room with a single question, with a single thought, or saying nothing, just with your presence. Those kind of coaches are going to be in high demand, super high demand, and extremely well paid.So Seize the Day is a process about how to do that live your purpose is a process about how to find your purpose and then live into it fully. And from that place, figure out how you're going to change the world. Now, after you've changed yourself or I have, your mission and purpose will be all over you. You'll know what it is and you'll be leaning into it. You'll be screaming it from the rooftops. And you can be well paid, whether it's book speaking, coaching or one of many, many other ways. And that's one of the things I do when I help people write their stories and publish their books, is also figure out how they're going to monetize, make cash out of your life. Your life's the most important thing you have. I don't care if you've learned to be an engineer or a doctor or a rocket scientist. Those are interesting and they're helpful, but they're still that thing over there.
