The Truth Behind Success: It's Not Just About Hard Work
"Rise and Grind" is a misguided mantra that often leads to resentment and burnout rather than joy and fulfillment. In this insightful discussion, the speaker emphasizes the importance of identifying what you truly want in life and shifting your mindset from obligation to commitment. Drawing parallels between personal experiences and broader societal pressures, the speaker encourages listeners to eliminate the grind from their daily routines and instead lean into activities that inspire excitement and purpose. The conversation explores how societal conditioning can create a false narrative around hard work and success, urging listeners to redefine their relationship with work and rest. Ultimately, the key message is to embrace a life of purpose, prosperity, and joy while rejecting the notion that success must come through relentless struggle.
Rooted in the discussion of personal development, the episode critiques the notion that success is solely a product of hard work and grinding through life's challenges. Instead, the speaker advocates for a balanced approach that values joy, purpose, and genuine commitment over mere obligation. The episode elaborates on the difference between obligations—often accompanied by resentment—and commitments made from a place of purpose and passion. By sharing personal anecdotes and relatable experiences, the speaker illustrates how shifting from a grind-focused mindset to one that embraces joy and intention can lead to more meaningful outcomes. The conversation also touches on the significance of rest and self-care, stressing that true productivity stems from a place of well-being rather than relentless exertion. This holistic view encourages listeners to redefine their relationship with work and success, fostering a healthier, more rewarding path toward achieving their dreams.

Welcome to the show.
Speaker ATired of the hype about living the dream?
Speaker AIt's time for truth.
Speaker AThis is the place for tools, power and real talk, so you can create the life you dream and deserve your ultimate life.
Speaker ASubscribe, share, create.
Speaker AYou have infinite power.
Speaker AHello.
Speaker AWelcome to your ultimate life.
Speaker AThe podcast show, YouTube thing, all of it dedicated just to one thing, to helping you create the life you deserve, the life you want, the life you crave.
Speaker AI don't know how you describe it, but I say purpose, prosperity and joy.
Speaker ARight now, I want you to say your words.
Speaker AMaybe it's money, freedom and, I don't know, time or love, health, wealth and something.
Speaker AWhatever it is.
Speaker ADo you know exactly what it looks like when I ask people that and I ask them to get serious and really tell me?
Speaker ANobody can.
Speaker AVery few.
Speaker AI won't say nobody.
Speaker ABut easily.
Speaker A90% can't really say.
Speaker AThey start with the easy.
Speaker AI want more money.
Speaker AI want more freedom.
Speaker AI want less stuff.
Speaker AI don't want to have to do things.
Speaker AI want freedom.
Speaker AAnd they say things that are emotionally reactive to this moment right now.
Speaker ALike I'm reacting to the pressures I feel right now.
Speaker ASo I could just have that gone.
Speaker AEverything would be great.
Speaker AAnd that's just bogus as anything.
Speaker AThat's not true.
Speaker AIf those things were gone, you would find other things that were not what you wanted.
Speaker ANot exactly.
Speaker ARight.
Speaker AYou'd find them.
Speaker AYou'd find them, you'd find them.
Speaker ASo what is the ultimate life?
Speaker AWell, step one, you need to know what you really want.
Speaker AAnd sometimes that's hard to do because we live in a society where you're constantly, practically raised from the cradle with judgment, and you're not good enough grades and sports and siblings and neighborhoods and maybe race, ethnicity, religion, all kinds of stuff.
Speaker AYou're not good enough.
Speaker AYou're not good enough.
Speaker AYou're not where you should be.
Speaker AIt's not enough.
Speaker ATry harder, work harder, be more, do more.
Speaker AYou're raised that way.
Speaker AAnd when you hear that thousands of times, you operate under what's called the law of conditions.
Speaker AThere's a story in the law of conditions, and the story goes about a little fish, little fish is in the water and he's hungry and he's down there and he get ready to eat, and he looks down, there's a big old shrimp down there and he wants to have it.
Speaker AAnd before he does that, he looks around, he notices what the temperature is and what the light is and what things, everything feels like.
Speaker AYou know, he notices all the things around him right then he gets ready to go have that shrimp and right at the last minute, a big fish knocks him out of the way and gobbles the shrimp, scares the crap out of him and hurts him a little.
Speaker ASo he's scared.
Speaker ASo scared he takes off and runs to another place in the ocean and you know, he's still really hungry.
Speaker ASo it's the next day and he hasn't eaten still.
Speaker ASo he looks down there and sure enough, there's a big old shrimp.
Speaker AAnd then he looks around some more and says, you know, this water's about the same temperature and the light's about the same and things are feeling, you know, the bottom looks about the same and the algae and all the rest is about the same.
Speaker AAnd he gets ready to eat the shrimp and then gets scared and runs away and doesn't eat the shrimp because the conditions were the same.
Speaker AAnd so he made an assumption, he she it fish made an assumption about what would happen and so ran off and didn't get fed.
Speaker ANow that law operates in your life all the time.
Speaker AMine too.
Speaker AWe get to a place where we recognize something we've seen before and we assume the outcome will be the same.
Speaker AAnd the truth is that different place in the ocean had exactly nothing to do with the first place.
Speaker ANow if you've done that or you're doing that right now, where you look around and say, you know, I tried to market my business or I tried to create a better relationship, or I tried to get along with my partner better or solve this problem or overcome a personal habit and things feel and look about the same.
Speaker AOh, it's the same.
Speaker AAnd then we get into the story of it can't work, it won't work.
Speaker AAnd then we go further and say, what's wrong with me?
Speaker AWhat's wrong with me?
Speaker AWhat's wrong with me?
Speaker AAnd I doubt the fish was busy doing that, but boy, do we humans do it in spades.
Speaker ASo one of the solutions that we propose to that is the title of today's show, Rise and Grind.
Speaker ARise and Grind.
Speaker ASo we are taught from our first breath that we're not enough by being judged.
Speaker AI don't know about you, but I was picked last often on sports teams up through maybe 14 or 15, and finally at 16, I hit puberty and started to grow and it was last.
Speaker ASo.
Speaker ABut for the first 15 years of life, I was a disaster.
Speaker AHorn rimmed glasses, skinny and a nerd, and my voice hadn't changed yet and all that stuff and you know, all the stuff that goes with that Kind of teasing and so forth.
Speaker ASo what about you?
Speaker AWhere are you allowing this thing to come into your life?
Speaker AWhere are you allowing the feeling or thought that because you failed before or you said you failed, like I would have an issue with that.
Speaker AAnd we'll do a whole thing on failure.
Speaker ANow, we just finished last episode, eight episodes on fear and eight different ways that that manifests in your life.
Speaker AAnd I've done some other episodes on failure.
Speaker AWe take failure, let's redefine failure.
Speaker ALet's for the purposes of our conversation, say that failure is not getting the outcome you wanted.
Speaker ANow when we don't get the outcome we wanted and it's way good, then we take all the credit.
Speaker AWoo.
Speaker ALook what I did.
Speaker AWhen things happen that we didn't want, sometimes we take the blame harshly and other times we blame others.
Speaker ABut what we do is we tend to personalize it.
Speaker AI suck.
Speaker AI'm not good enough.
Speaker AI can't.
Speaker AIt'll never.
Speaker AI won't.
Speaker AIt.
Speaker AYou know, on and on and on.
Speaker AYou know what that feels like?
Speaker AThat is the antithesis of creating purpose, prosperity and joy.
Speaker AIt's the antithesis of enjoying your life, of being in love with yourself and with your circumstance.
Speaker AI was doing an exercise earlier today with joy as we were driving to the computer store.
Speaker ANow, I explained several weeks ago that I'm working at a different station, computer station, because my computer, my regular computer, which is on a desk behind this backdrop, broke a few weeks ago.
Speaker AAnd so it's been in the shop and finally I got a new CPU from Intel, mailed out and I got it Friday.
Speaker AAnd so we took it in today.
Speaker AIt'll be fixed, I hope, later this week.
Speaker AAnyway, my point in saying that is I can't even remember I was telling a story about that my computer broke and it meant something.
Speaker AOh, failure.
Speaker AFor a long time, for like several months, I blamed myself.
Speaker AWhat did I install wrong?
Speaker AWhat did I do wrong?
Speaker AAre my drivers not up to date?
Speaker AAnd I went down the road of thinking I'd done something wrong.
Speaker AAnd the truth is the CPU was faulty.
Speaker AIt worked enough so that it worked sometimes, but it failed.
Speaker AAnd then I kept getting blue screens of death and I didn't do anything.
Speaker ASo I delayed.
Speaker AI delayed the repair for several months, thinking, if I just do this a little better, if I just do that a little better, if I reinstall.
Speaker AFinally, I reinstalled Windows 2 or 3 times.
Speaker ANow, those of you that have done that know what that is, right?
Speaker AOh, you got to reinstall all of your programs.
Speaker AAnd that takes half a day.
Speaker ASo you reinstall windows, you got to put everything back on it.
Speaker AThat's like half a day.
Speaker ASo I did that two or three times, and I've wasted, I don't know, probably 100 hours in the year since I built it.
Speaker AI built it last October.
Speaker ASo, you know, and that was because I kept thinking I'd done something wrong.
Speaker AI should have taken it into the shop two months ago, three months ago, and just said, hey, find out what's wrong for me, because this is over my pay grade.
Speaker ABut I kept thinking I needed to fix it anyway.
Speaker AI don't know if that kind of thing has bothered you or not, but one of the solutions that we get, one of the pieces of advice that we get for entrepreneurs, for self improvement, personal improvement, all that is the idea that in order to be successful, you've got to rise and grind.
Speaker ARise and grind.
Speaker ANow, I am absolutely a hard worker, and I'm for working hard.
Speaker ALove it.
Speaker ALove what I do.
Speaker ABut you see, I also live the ultimate life.
Speaker AI have a life of purpose, prosperity and joy.
Speaker AAnd so I love every day.
Speaker AWow.
Speaker AWhat a cool thing.
Speaker AToday was kind of funny, though.
Speaker AI'd been gone for last week for, like, seven days.
Speaker AAnd so for seven days, I did not do my ice bath because it was too complicated to arrange in the place I was staying.
Speaker AI probably could have done it, but I just went for a week without it.
Speaker AIn that week, that water temperature here in Edmonton went down, the ambient temperature went down, and the ice that I had in my freezer froze harder and harder and harder.
Speaker ASo my ice bath this morning was, yeah, freezing cold.
Speaker AIt took me an hour afterwards just to get to room temperature.
Speaker ABut anyway, it doesn't matter.
Speaker AJust a funny little funny thing.
Speaker ASo we've been taught to rise and grind.
Speaker AAnd the idea of that isn't work hard, because that's all good.
Speaker AThe idea is the grind, grind, grind, grind.
Speaker AI've got a client that talks about that.
Speaker AHe says, you know, I feel like everything's got to be grindy.
Speaker AEverything's got to be grindy or it's not.
Speaker AI'm not doing it right.
Speaker AAnd somewhere along the way, he got a story in his mind that things had to feel grindy, a little uncomfortable grind, or you weren't doing it right.
Speaker ANow I know where some of that came from for me.
Speaker AMy parents taught me to work hard at chores and yard work and housework and all kinds of stuff.
Speaker AAnd that was great.
Speaker AI think that's, you know, learning, responsibility and Doing things to get whatever you get as an allowance or however the money works in the house.
Speaker AYou know, those things are all fine.
Speaker APeople have to learn how the world really works.
Speaker ABut the grind part is associated with.
Speaker AIt has to be uncomfortable, not fun.
Speaker AAnd that piece for me came in the phrase, you can't play till your work's done.
Speaker AAnd so I associated work with sucky stuff.
Speaker AAnd play was fun.
Speaker ANow I don't feel that way anymore.
Speaker AEverything I do is play.
Speaker AMaking this for you is fun.
Speaker AWriting another book called Masterpiece.
Speaker AI'll keep you updated as I make podcasts all along the way about what's going on with Masterpiece.
Speaker AMasterpiece.
Speaker ASeize the day.
Speaker ALive in flow.
Speaker AChange the world.
Speaker AThat's not fanciful thinking.
Speaker AIt's real and you can do it.
Speaker ABut the starting line for that is learning to live a life of purpose, prosperity, which includes cash, of course, and joy, or whatever your three words are.
Speaker ASo I want to.
Speaker AThe title today is Rise and Grind is Bogus.
Speaker ABogus.
Speaker AAnd I started with the caveat that I'm not talking about not working hard or diligent or putting in paying your dues or whatever that is.
Speaker ASure, I have.
Speaker AMaybe you have, too.
Speaker AProbably you have.
Speaker AYou wouldn't be listening to this podcast.
Speaker ASo what do I mean?
Speaker AWell, the idea of rise and grind, what does that feel like?
Speaker AWell, immediately, I don't know about you, but immediately, as soon as I say that I feel an element of resistance, I feel an element of I gotta do this and gotta have to grind always carries this sort of element of resentment.
Speaker AThere's.
Speaker AI'd rather be doing something else.
Speaker AI don't really want to do this.
Speaker AIf I had my druthers, I'd what, sit on a beach and sip Mai tais and read?
Speaker AYou know what?
Speaker AThat gets old.
Speaker ABeen there, done that.
Speaker AYou get old.
Speaker AYou and I were built to work.
Speaker AWe're built to do stuff, create stuff, make things happen.
Speaker AWe are.
Speaker AAnd you know, one of the things that's interesting about that, when we do stuff that is full of love, kindness, service, we feel good.
Speaker AOur body rewards us.
Speaker AOur mind rewards us.
Speaker AOur spirit rewards us.
Speaker AAnd that's not socialized.
Speaker AOur neurochemistry programs us to.
Speaker APrograms us to be kind, loving, and helpful.
Speaker AWe beat the crap out of that.
Speaker ASometimes circumstances of poverty or injustice or cruelty, you know, camouflages or destroys that.
Speaker ABut we're built that way.
Speaker ASo the grind part to me suggests resistance, resentment.
Speaker AI'd rather be doing something else.
Speaker AAnd so the rise and grind is bogus, because Rise and Grind will not produce happiness.
Speaker ARise and grind may produce money, it may produce success, it may produce elevation over someone else, like you're more successful than another person.
Speaker AIt might produce all those things.
Speaker AI got to turn that light away there, that's better.
Speaker AIt might produce those things for you, but none of those are happiness.
Speaker AAnd if you think that money gives you happiness, I promise it doesn't.
Speaker AMoney magnifies every weakness, every problem, every difficulty that you have.
Speaker AIf you want to be lazy, money magnifies that.
Speaker AIf you want to cheat even a little, money magnifies that.
Speaker AIf you're unkind, money magnifies that.
Speaker AIf you say, well, I don't have to be kind, I don't have time, I got to do this.
Speaker AAnd if I step on a few people, it doesn't go away because you get money.
Speaker ASo money doesn't solve anything except it buys facility and tools and your ability to do more of who you are.
Speaker AThink about that.
Speaker AMore of who you are.
Speaker AWell, that says the most important thing then is who you are as you make the money, not after you make the money, who you are today.
Speaker ASo the coaching that I do is central.
Speaker AStarts with that all the time, every time.
Speaker AWho are you in the world?
Speaker AWhatever you're doing, having a get up, getting up in the morning, you have a morning ritual or morning routine.
Speaker AI call it a daily creation process.
Speaker AAnd I've done some episodes on that.
Speaker AIf you want to know more about that, reach out.
Speaker AI'm going to pause right here in the middle and issue you three invitations.
Speaker AOne, I invite you to share the podcast with someone that you know who's trying to create their ultimate life, a life of purpose, prosperity and joy, who's an entrepreneur who's trying to build and bless and lift others and themselves, and who's trying to make good cash.
Speaker AShare it with somebody, you'll be doing them a great favor.
Speaker AThe second invitation is if you're already living that life of purpose, prosperity and joy and you flip out with excitement every single day, I want to know.
Speaker AYou had a chance this morning to have a call with friend of mine, Christopher Doris, who's fantastic.
Speaker AI love him.
Speaker AAnd he was.
Speaker AHe's written a few books and so have I, and we've talked about that.
Speaker AHe's been on LA talk radio before, so I was just asking him this morning what the next year or two is planned for him.
Speaker AAnd, you know, what's going on.
Speaker AAnd he talked about, you know, his business and his balance and what he's trying to do.
Speaker AAnd he's one that is living the life, you know, he said, my life's just about like I like it.
Speaker AAnd he wants to make some adjustments here, there, but he loves it.
Speaker AHe's living a life of excitement and joy.
Speaker ASo if you're like that, and you are, I want to know you.
Speaker AI love knowing people that have created that kind of success.
Speaker ASo I'm inviting you to connect.
Speaker AThird is if you have a message, if you have a message that you want to get to the world.
Speaker AMy commitment this year, now, my year started a week ago, October 14th.
Speaker AI'm making a public commitment.
Speaker AMy commitment is to reach 300 million people this year.
Speaker AAnd by reach, I mean give you the message of divinity, capability, possibility, divinity.
Speaker ABecause you're a divine being, capability.
Speaker ASince you are created by the divine, you have divine DNA, divine embryo.
Speaker AYou can do anything you want.
Speaker AAnd your possibility to create is infinite.
Speaker ANow, rise and grind doesn't feed into that.
Speaker ARemember, I'm not saying don't work hard.
Speaker AI'm saying the grind part is antithetical because you're built to have joy.
Speaker AI know that because when we love and serve each other, we have joy.
Speaker AWe're happy.
Speaker ASo rise and grind.
Speaker AThere's a different way to say it.
Speaker AThere's a different way to think about it.
Speaker AIt's not just semantics.
Speaker AIt really matters.
Speaker AShall I tell you what it is?
Speaker AIt is to lean in now when you have something exciting to do.
Speaker AThink about when you're going on vacation where you have a gift in front of you or something's happened that you really like and you are leaning in.
Speaker AOoh, that excitement, anticipation.
Speaker AWhat if every single thing you did all day long had that anticipation, the anticipatory excitement of leaning in.
Speaker AThe way I help clients do this is I help them eliminate everything from their calendar and only put things back in that they want to do.
Speaker AI hear people so often say, I gotta this, I gotta that.
Speaker AOh, yeah, I have to do this.
Speaker ANonsense.
Speaker AYou don't have to do anything.
Speaker AYou don't got to do anything.
Speaker AThere may be some consequences, but don't fool yourself into thinking you have to.
Speaker ASo if you're going to say, I'm going to do this because I'm not willing to accept whatever consequences you imagine because haven't happened yet, so you don't know.
Speaker ABut whatever consequences you imagine are attached to the action or non action, then why don't you lean into it, commit to it, just enjoy it.
Speaker ABecause you can choose enjoyment instead of resentment.
Speaker ASo that's the first point.
Speaker AWhy Rise and grind is Bogus.
Speaker AGet rid of the grind.
Speaker ALean in.
Speaker AAnd if you can't lean in, get it off your calendar.
Speaker AGet it off now.
Speaker AIf you've made an obligation or commitment to someone, if you've made a commitment, then you'll need to renegotiate that.
Speaker AOr, or you will have to complete whatever you've said and then end it.
Speaker ABut clean out your life because the energy of grind is counterproductive.
Speaker AYou may get a lot done.
Speaker AI'm not saying that, but it's not joyful.
Speaker AThe second piece is the difference between purpose and obligation.
Speaker AI talked about obligation just a minute ago and how it carries the seeds of resentment.
Speaker AThe other side of that coin is commitment.
Speaker AAnd commitment comes from having a purpose.
Speaker ASo if you, let's say you get married and you have a kid, you've made an enormous commitment.
Speaker AYou are now responsible for the life and well being of a child in this world.
Speaker ANow that can be a joyful thing or a resenting thing.
Speaker AIt can be, it can start out joyful.
Speaker AAnd the miracle and the little baby and it's beautiful and the miracle of life and everything.
Speaker AAnd then when they're crying at 2 in the morning or 4 in the morning, or when they're teenagers and get in trouble and do all kinds of stuff or burn your house down or whatever, then you know, the resentment pours out.
Speaker AAnd before then, all through life, kids do things because they're people.
Speaker AWhere is your commitment?
Speaker AWhen I make a commitment, and this is learned behavior.
Speaker AI wasn't like this when I started on this personal development journey in the beginning of end of 2007, beginning in 2008, I was the opposite of this.
Speaker AI had boatloads of obligations.
Speaker AEverything that I had to do, I hated most of it.
Speaker AAnd my life was commensurately miserable.
Speaker AIt's not required.
Speaker AIt is not required.
Speaker AAnd in fact, it's the opposite of having fun.
Speaker AYou're constantly living for the idea that I'll be fun, I'll have fun after this.
Speaker AIt's like working for the weekend.
Speaker ASomeday I finally get to vacation and then vacation from the vacation and do what I want instead of what I have to do.
Speaker AWell, you're already doing that.
Speaker AYou're just naming it negatively.
Speaker AYou're choosing to have it be a negative piece of energy.
Speaker AAnd you can stop that anytime you want.
Speaker AThat is my specialty.
Speaker AThe whole mess, not just that one thing.
Speaker ACan you imagine with me for a moment, slow down here and imagine waking up every single morning, no exceptions, in love with the life you have in front of you.
Speaker AEvery activity, your morning creation is a thing of joy.
Speaker AYou love yourself and your partner if you have one.
Speaker AYour kids if you have them.
Speaker AYou love the people that you're serving.
Speaker AI love you.
Speaker AI just do.
Speaker AYou're a divine being with infinite capability.
Speaker AAnd all these episodes, this is number 900 and whatever, I don't know, a whole bunch.
Speaker AI love making them because I love giving you encouragement and love.
Speaker AYou and I, we create our lives with every breath, with every word, with every thought.
Speaker AWe just don't know that or we don't remember it, we're not aware of it, or we just disagree with it because we think everything that everybody else does controls us, and it doesn't.
Speaker ASo if you want help with any of this, if you want help getting rid of the fear that we talked about in the last episode, or if you want help understanding how to turn all of those obligations you have into joyful commitments, reach out and let's talk.
Speaker AIf you have a message to share, reach out and let's talk.
Speaker AI meet so many people that have just incredible stories of their life, what they've overcome, their resilience and their power, and, you know, what they're all driven to do.
Speaker AServe.
Speaker AThey're all driven to help.
Speaker AThey're all driven to share what they've learned and grown and created.
Speaker AWhy?
Speaker ATo add good to the world.
Speaker ASo I live that life.
Speaker AIf you do, I want to talk to you.
Speaker AIf you don't, I invite you to connect.
Speaker ANow, there's a.
Speaker AThere's a URL on the screen.
Speaker AKellen Fluker Media.
Speaker ARemember that URL.
Speaker AKellen Fluker media dot com.
Speaker AGo there, check out.
Speaker AIt'll show you what I'm doing, what I'm about.
Speaker AAnd there's stuff there that you can have.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker AThere's links to free stuff, and there's all these podcasts and YouTube videos, thousands of things that I have created because I love you and because you have every right and opportunity to create a life of joy and service and wealth that you want.
Speaker AThe last thing I want to talk about is I talked a little bit about commitment.
Speaker AWhen I use the word commitment, I use it in a special way.
Speaker AWe make promises when we're not sure if we can keep them.
Speaker AAnd maybe we fully intend to do something.
Speaker AI intend to, with all my heart, and that's fine.
Speaker AAnd then something happens, and we just sort of expect everybody to understand, well, you know, this happened.
Speaker AWell, this happened.
Speaker ASorry, that's not how a commitment, a real commitment works.
Speaker AIf you've made a Real commitment.
Speaker AI use the language.
Speaker ADoes this thing I'm saying rise to the level of a commitment?
Speaker ACommitments are few, they're powerful, they're sacred, and they're far between.
Speaker AAnd what it means to me is I'll do whatever I have to to deliver this thing as agreed.
Speaker AAnd if some extraordinary thing has intervened, then my absolute commitment is to let you know as soon as I found out to tell you what's happened, and to make other arrangements to deal or deliver the commitment.
Speaker ABlowing you off and hoping you understand or expecting you to is nonsense.
Speaker AIf something has happened that I'm sick and in the hospital and there's no way I'll be able to do a thing, then I'll say that for the foreseeable future, this, this and this.
Speaker AI'm not able to do that.
Speaker AWhat do I need to do to make that up?
Speaker AThat's how sacred commitments are to me.
Speaker AWhat do I need to do to fix this?
Speaker ABecause I've made a commitment and those are bulletproof for me.
Speaker ASo I invite you to think about that.
Speaker AAnd here's the fun thing.
Speaker AEvery single one of those commitments is joy.
Speaker AIt's joyful.
Speaker AI don't make them unless I mean it.
Speaker AAnd when I mean it, then I'm all in for it.
Speaker AJoyfully, excitedly, making and keeping the commitments.
Speaker ABut I get to pick the other side of that coin is to say no.
Speaker AWhen someone asks you to do something, don't grudgingly say yes, say no, say no.
Speaker AYou may want to point them in another direction.
Speaker AI'm not able to do that.
Speaker AMaybe you can do this, this and this.
Speaker ANo.
Speaker AIt's not your job to solve the problem.
Speaker AIf you know something and you're able to make a suggestion, do it.
Speaker AIf you're not.
Speaker AOkay.
Speaker ANow, the last thing I want to talk about is the antithesis of rise and grind, which is rest.
Speaker AYou know, one of the things I episodes a little bit ago was I'll sleep when I'm dead.
Speaker AAnd I know that feeling, and I know that phrase and I know why people say it.
Speaker AAnd that is there's so much to do and experience and see.
Speaker AI don't want to sleep.
Speaker AWaste of time.
Speaker AI'll sleep and I'm dead.
Speaker ASo I'm not arguing with the idea of leaning in and experiencing all you can and all that stuff.
Speaker AWhat I am saying is sometimes we end up feeling guilty.
Speaker AThe rise and grind is every day, no matter what, 10 hours, 12 hours, bust your ass.
Speaker AAnd that's the only way you can have or deserve success.
Speaker AYour ultimate life, you know, all that good stuff.
Speaker AIt's not true.
Speaker AThe earth has the sun go down for many hours.
Speaker AAnywhere between, you know, six and 14 hours, depending on where you live and what the season is.
Speaker AThe time of rest is decreed by the divine in nature.
Speaker AThe earth rests.
Speaker AGod rested.
Speaker AAccording to the creation story, we are given to rest.
Speaker ANow we sleep away a third of our lives, you know, or maybe six hours a night or four.
Speaker AI mean, some people need more or less.
Speaker ASome people, if they sleep 10, that's not enough.
Speaker AI don't know.
Speaker AI'm about 7.
Speaker ASo if I get 7, I'm good for the next day.
Speaker AI don't do 5 very long, very well.
Speaker AAnd you might.
Speaker ABut my point is rest is okay.
Speaker ANot resentful rest, not.
Speaker AWish I didn't have to go to sleep rest not I don't have time rest because that is only half rest.
Speaker AIf I sleep uptight for six hours, that's about three hours worth of rest.
Speaker ASo my urging from my own personal and sometimes bitter, extreme experience is rest fully, rest completely, and rest as you need to.
Speaker AA refreshed and rested mind, spirit and body is far more capable of being creative, of being loving, of adding good to the world, of being able to solve problems that come up in your day, of being able to figure out, what can I create from this mess that just happened that I didn't want.
Speaker AAll of those things go way better when we're rested.
Speaker ASo rest your body, rest your spirit.
Speaker ASo that's, you know, that's why I said rise and grind is bogus.
Speaker AWork hard, do commitments that you're really committed to, and then don't look back.
Speaker ANever let things turn into resentful obligations.
Speaker AChoose instead to lean in to each thing you're doing because you can.
Speaker ASo you get to choose your attitude and your feeling every day, all the time.
Speaker ANobody can make you or me feel grumpy.
Speaker AThat's mine to do.
Speaker AAnd someone else may say or do whatever they do.
Speaker ABut it's on me how I choose to hear that.
Speaker AIt's on me whether I choose that to affect me or not.
Speaker AIt really is.
Speaker AThat's on me.
