Your Purpose Won’t Pay You Until You Build It Into an Asset
Your story can inspire people. Your purpose can change lives. But neither automatically creates prosperity. If you leave your story as nothing more than memories, journal entries, or private healing, you may be leaving its greatest potential untouched.
In this episode, Kellan Fluckiger challenges the idea that purpose is something you simply “find” and then everything falls into place. He reveals how your skills, gifts, and life experience can be woven together into a purpose—and how that purpose can become an actual asset that creates measurable value, serves other people, and generates income.
Your story isn’t something to process forever.
It is something to build with.

Don't you just love it when a movie tells a great story? You get involved, you're rooting for people and it is so much fun. Welcome to the show. Tired of the hype about living the dream? It's time for truth. This is the place for tools, power and real talk so you can create the life you dream and deserve your ultimate life. Foreign subscribe, share, create. You have infinite power.Welcome to this episode of your ultimate life, the podcast dedicated to one thing to help you create a life of purpose, prosperity and joy that you love to wake up to every single day. And the first thing I want to reaffirm right now is that your ultimate life is available to you right here, right now.You don't have to settle for second rate anything I liken it from to a move. Moving from a swamp, you know, where you're like ankle deep, maybe waist deep, maybe neck deep in a swamp. And the swamp has a name. The name of the swamp is learned helplessness, addiction to mediocrity and victim mindset. How long have you lived in that swamp? Maybe you don't, but lots of people that I talk to, either a little or a lot do.And here's how you can tell if I have a victim mindset. I'm blaming everything that happened to me. They did that. The government, God, the universe, the economy, everything is attacking me and I'm the poor victim of all these things. That happens a lot. I'd ask you to check your, your mouth, use your ears, check your mouth, check your mind for victim thinking. The second thing is addiction to mediocrity. That's the feeling of this is as good as it gets. You know, somebody's getting it, but they're probably taking it from somebody else. See that a lot.At least that's how it shows on news media, whatever channel these days is that life is a zero sum game and if somebody has more, somebody has less. That's not true. Every single day the sun shines on the earth. The earth grows, plants, food, etc. Animals, people, we grow. That isn't taking it away from somebody else. There's a whole video I saw that's kind of fun about what the sun provides us. Now, we all know heat, light, warmth, energy, all that kind of stuff. But did you know that the earth radiates back into space exactly the same amount of energy that the sun gives us? If it weren't true, the earth would get hotter and hotter and we'd burn up.Not in decades or client, you know, climate change, none of that Crap, I'm just talking about in days, if. If there wasn't an equal exchange. So. And the Earth radiates it back. There's a difference, though, in the kind of energy we get and the kind we radiate back out. And that's the secret of this growth. So if you think about this, there is infinite growth. There is infinite energy. And the idea of a zero sum game is not true. We create more wealth, cash, and I'm not talking about governments printing money, which causes inflation and all kinds of crazy stuff. There is an infinite growth. If we create wealth, we get to have it. And there is an infinite way to create wealth that isn't extractive and doesn't rob somebody else. And that's what we've talked about often, and we're going to talk more about that today. So addiction to mediocrity just says, that's all I get. This is as good as it gets.Somebody else might have better, maybe has more, but I can't have it. Not me, not now, not ever. That's addiction to mediocrity. And the third one is learned helplessness. Now, that relates to the other two a little, but learned helplessness. Think of the elephant story is the one that gets told all the time. When a young elephant wants. They want to train it in the circus. They put a big chain around the foot of the elephant and they attach it to a big hefty stake they drive deep in the ground. And the young elephant's frustrated and yanks and yanks and yanks and yanks on that. And, you know, if it's poorly put in, of course it yanks it out, but it's pounded deep in the ground and the chain's way too big. And so pretty quick, the elephant learns it cannot pull away from the chain. It gets to the end of chain. That's it.When an elephant grows up, because it learned that helplessness, meaning I can't go further than the chain. They don't even have to have a chain anymore. And put a small cord around the elephant's foot tied to a stake that the elephant could actually rip out easily or break the cord. But the elephant has learned to be helpless. We do that all the time. And here's what it looks like.We believe there are boundaries to what we can have. We believe there are limits to our capability, to our wealth, to our ability to make an impact. We believe there are limits to our ability to change ourselves. All of that is foundationally and fundamentally untrue. Okay, there's been just Boatloads of research, the biology of belief.Dr. Bruce Lipton, who's a microbiologist to read that and all the kinds of neuroplasticity studies and everything else we can change physically, we can change spiritually, we can change mentally. So living in a swamp of learned helplessness, addiction to mediocrity and victim mindset is a torture chamber. And then we settle. We just get the idea that this is all we can have. And then every day turns into a repeat of yesterday. Did you live 50 years or did you live one year 50 times? And those are cliche sayings and I know it. But I invite you to consider whether it's true for you or not. Okay, so let's get to what today is really about.Today I want to talk about one piece of your ultimate life purpose, prosperity and joy. Today I want to talk about the cash part. Prosperity. We've talked a lot about finding your purpose and choosing your purpose and the triple helix of your purpose. I'm going to review that just for a sec because it'll make sense in the cash part in a minute.People say to me all the time, I don't know what my purpose is. If I could just have my purpose, then I would be okay. Then I do everything I'm supposed to do. Well, that's nonsense. And I'll tell you why it's nonsense. Because people say that. Maybe you've said it. I have said it in different ways in the past. But here's what it presupposes. If I had a purpose, I would automatically be motivated and all the struggles and troubles that happen in my life would somehow evaporate and I would just be able to get past them all and see it. Because I have a glorious purpose out there. It's not true.Setbacks, people that betray you, getting smashed in the face, economic changes, the weather, whatever it is still discourages and everything else. And the purpose can be fun and glorious and energizing, but it won't overcome that unless we choose. Now, I did several episodes on the five steps of really making a transformation. People think the breakthroughs are the only part of it, but we won't do that today.Purpose you find by a triple helix method your skills, your gifts and your life experience. You weave those together in a rope. Think of braiding. Your skills are those things that you've chosen to develop.Maybe you have become an engineer and you have PE stamped after name professional engineer or or JD because you've studied the law or MD or nothing, no initials. But you have Specific skills. You've developed skills in mechanicing or painting or plumbing or welding. Maybe you have.My son is a spectacular carpenter. He builds absolute bespoke furniture that's glorious and beautiful cabinets and things that are meticulous. And perfection is his standard. He has an astounding skill for that. And I got 10 kids, so I could go down the list and list them all. Many of my kids have really focused on physical development, and so they are.Have become staggeringly cool specimens of physical development. Okay. My.One of my daughters was just in a competition for the COVID of a magazine, a fitness magazine, and she didn't win first place, but she got to the final something. And it's because of her dedication to fitness. It's incredible. So that those skills are the first thing.Skills are things you chose to develop for whatever reason. Sometimes people say, well, I went to college and became a lawyer because my dad was or mom was or whatever, or a doctor or something like that.It doesn't matter. You developed a set of skills. That's one pile of things that you can mine to find a purpose. And sometimes people find it.I have a woman right now who's a dear, dear friend, client, and now author who's written a book. And it is related to her skill and her purpose now.She became a medical doctor against all odds and a bunch of difficulties, and the story is incredible. And her purpose now is to make an integration between all the different kinds of medicine, allotropic, Western medicine, and, you know, Chinese medicine and other. All kinds of healing modalities that work. And they each look at the other skeptically instead of embracing an integration. And that's her focus. And she's creating a business, has created already a business around that, to have a place for this integration to take place. So that particular purpose, okay, ties to her skill, but it also ties to other things. So the Triple Helix. Skills, gifts and life experience.Besides your skills, you also have a set of gifts. We don't really know where they come from. Well, I do. They're given to us by the divine. We came with them. We were given gifts before we came here.We also have a mission and purpose. But that's a story for another day.If you want to read about it, you can read in the book Meeting God at the Door, which talks about my debt, my dying in 2018 now, eight years ago, and the things I learned in that death experience and what has come to me from that. And one of the things is we all have a mission and purpose that we not only Agreed to, but we were stoked about. And we have the gifts and talents to accomplish that mission and enjoy it. But anyway, regardless, you know, you have a set of gifts. Some people are gifted at math, or some people are gifted at artistic things, or some people are gifted in leadership, and they seem to have a charismatic way about them. Some people are gifted in listening, and they're able to listen deeply. Some people are gifted in just kind of knowing what to do.I had a friend once who, in difficult situations, they would think for a second and they would say something, and most of the time it was like, yes, we should do that. And it was very good. And they just seemed to have that gift. All right, so you might have. Some people have obvious gifts.Talents in art or an eye for that, or arrangements or music or singing or dancing, whatever it is. Those gifts are obvious. But there are thousands of different gifts and nuances. Okay? And so making a list of your gifts. Now, often your gifts might be tied to your skills, because a person might take a gift and choose to develop it at school, trade school, or in real life, and it then becomes a skill. But they're not always connected. And sometimes we have gifts that are not developed. So it's important to have a list of your gifts. What are the gifts you have? The things that people come to you for that you naturally are good at. The third list is the list of your life experience. So maybe you had an illness when you were young, a very severe illness, or maybe you died in 2018 like I did, or in some other year. Or maybe you had a abusive childhood, or maybe you've had an addiction problem with yourself or in your family.Or maybe there's been a real pile of wealth that you had to deal with. Having extra wealth is a very significant life experience and can be a challenge.Or maybe there was an extreme case of poverty or, you know, lack or deprivation. It doesn't matter what it is. Your life has taken you on a journey through a set of experiences, right? From those experiences, we either get crushed or we get built up. They can ruin us or they can refine us. And sometimes we let them ruin us for a day, week, month, year, decade. And then we realize that it is our choice to allow those same hard experiences to refine us, make us more patient or passionate or careful or excited or focused or forgiving or whatever it is. Right? And these three things are not separate. So I had a client who had a set of life experiences that made her want to become an attorney. And not just an attorney for A particular. But. But for a very particular thing. And so she developed the legal skill, but it came out of a life experience. And she did it a little bit later in life, in her 40s, I think, said, darn it, I'm going to become an attorney in that area. Because I had saw this injustice. So those are the three things, the three silos, but they're not really silos. Skills, gifts, and life experience.I can make you a promise. If you take those three things and you marinate them, wind them together, weave a rope, you will find a purpose, and it will turn you on, it will light you up, and it will be the most exciting thing you ever imagined. Now, it won't use all of your skills, and it won't use all of your gifts, and it probably won't use all your life experience.Maybe it will, but it will use enough of them that woven together. Your eyes light up, your heart's on fire, and you feel a passion that's intentional. And it is the best place to find, to choose a purpose. Now, I want to make one more observation about purpose, and that is this. Some people think I haven't found my purpose yet. You don't find it. You choose it. You build it.And the way you choose it and build it is in this triple helix. From your skills, gifts, and life experience, you will find one and you will choose. Is not true that when you find a purpose, you're just suddenly turned on forever. It is a choice you make and you make daily. And the best way to find it or choose it, and as it were, is to examine your skills, gifts, life experience, and build a rope. That's why I call it the triple helix. Think of a DNA strand with three legs instead of two. Right? All right. So purpose, prosperity, and joy.And I said I was going to mention purpose briefly, and there's been more than briefly. I explained it a little bit. I've done a whole episode on that before. This was just a smattering, a touch of it.The next piece is prosperity, and that's what I want to focus on the rest of our time. There are so many people who think, well, I have a purpose, but I don't know how to make money with my chosen purpose. That's because you're not thinking about it the right way or you're not willing to do the work.If you choose a purpose from your skills, gifts, and life experience and you stick with it and you get the right help, you can make not only a living, but you can make a big difference. It's not hard to understand why your unique combination of skills, gifts, life experience is unlike anyone else's.So of course you can make the biggest difference. Of course you can be a unicorn with a beautiful colored horn. Don't know what that looks like.I know what they look like in fairy tale books, and I know what they look like in Harry Potter. But anyway, you'll be a unicorn. Of course you are. Your voice will be different, your experiences will be different.Your patience and insight and tenderness and your frameworks and tools will be different because you are different. And your skills, gifts, life experience come together in a combination that's magic. Okay? So that choice of purpose is the key to your prosperity. So that's why I went on it first. And the reason is because it is the thing you love most. It is the thing that is most you because it came from your skills, gifts, life experience. So it is all you've got. All I've got. And it is the most powerful version of that. So in the last several episodes, I've been talking about your story, right? And how that's so powerful. And just now, this first part, I've exactly showed you without any hesitation or lack of clarity, how to mine your, your person, your life for this story, so to speak. Because your story and your purpose are one and the same when you do it this way. Some people treat a story like, like a memoir or something, and we've talked about that in other episodes. When you, when you weave your story and your purpose together, this is where the cash comes, okay? We are turning hardcore today to cash.Your story and your purpose are emotional, but it is also strategic, big time economic, and it is also structural. So we're going to talk about the structure. Your story isn't something to process. It's something to build with. And we're not talking about exploiting pain or anything else. We're honoring the transformation that took place that made you choose that purpose. Okay? It's, it's not the same like journaling for relief or sharing for validation or building, you know, that kind of thing. It is. There's a difference between doing any of those things and binding your story to your purpose and then serving with it.Because when you serve effectively with it, you can get paid big cash. I have 12 ways I won't be able to cover them all in this podcast, but 12 ways you can create prosperity or cash. Okay?If your story, if all it ever does is help you feel better privately, it's unfinished because it, it until it turns into your purpose, skills Gifts, life experience. It's just some journal entries, okay? Turning it into an asset is what is how it turns into cash. Public service. Now, private healing matters, but public service multiplies your passion, your purpose. And I'm using the words purpose and story interchangeably here, on purpose, because the story, the way that we've talked about it, mining your life and looking at your skills, gifts and life experience, it gives you an almighty purpose that can drive your life, can add good to the world, and can fill up your bank account. We're not performing pain, but it's packaging your wisdom in and connected to your purpose. So here's the thing that makes story an asset, okay?It is a clear before. Here's what happened. And this is several things, many things. There's a real conflict, a struggle which might be the time it took you to learn or gain the skill, or the insight that caused you to realize you had a certain gift, or the life experience that beat the crap out of you until you chose to be resilient and overcome it. Woven together, all of those create, guess what, your purpose, and they are your story. So when there's a before in a clear conflict, a real turning point and a real transformation, you can turn that if you want to. And this is the purpose part. You turn it into a repeatable lesson. You turn it, because it's your purpose, into a promise for others.A promise for others to shorten their path, learn and grow faster, to take advantage, be served by your purpose. And in that process, you get paid. Okay, you will get paid if you choose to monetize or package that process.Because you're giving people a path forward. And that's worth money. It's worth big money. Assets create value that lasts beyond their original owner. You know how books become classics and they're read for generations. Why? Because they serve a purpose. Now, some of them are fairy tales and fun, but they have lessons that we have learned forever. If your story turned into a purpose, can inspire someone, if your purpose can teach or warn someone of something, or guide someone, if your purpose is to do that, if it can shorten suffering, if it can create trust, if it can support an offer, then it's an asset. So we've talked about story, and today in this episode, I'm intentionally using the language of purpose. Because your story is your purpose. If you do your story right. I went through all these things and I got these skills and gifts and life experience as the go through part. And now I'm absolutely committed to help women step into their power who have been marginalized, people who've suffered divorce to get through it and love again, people who have started businesses and failed. How to have the courage to learn from those mistakes and do it again. And I'm going to show you shortcut to do it faster and better.I have a client that wrote that book. He had a 50 million. He called it the $100 million journey. But the journey started with a mess.He had built some companies, they were worth 50 million. And he went and raised some capital. And the people that he raised it from took over the company and fired him and then ran it into the ground, et cetera. So guess what? That hard experience story turned into a purpose.I'm writing a book and creating a program to help entrepreneurs get past the messy middle, he called it, which is the place where you have that circular thing about, I need money to grow and I can't grow till I get money, and I can't get money till I grow that thing. So he helped them do that purpose story all tied together. Now, an asset is something that creates continuing value after the moment is over.So turning your purpose that comes from your story into an asset, a course is one way to do it, which is like, do it yourself, how to tune your own piano.A do it with you course done with you where you might have some office hours and you know, or you know, some kind of a group coaching program, individual coaching, group coaching. It can turn into a series of books. It can turn into courses that beginning and intermediate and advanced courses to learn to do things. It can turn into a mastermind where similar situated people get together and support one another. It can turn into speaking engagements where you go and speak to sell products from stage.Or where you get paid to keynote and speak about a particular thing. And people always, always that are successful speak, guess what? From the stories of their own lives, from their passion.Oh, that person always speaks about this. Why? Because it's what they've lived. So if your story has become an. It is an asset. It has become an asset when you've structured it so that someone else can use your wisdom. Now, people come to me often and they'll say, I want to speak. Ooh, I want to speak. I'm so good. I love speaking from stage. You know what?Being a keynote that travels around a lot is fun for a little bit and then not very much. It's a lot of travel. The amount of money you make is limited because you're not allowed. When you're paid to speak, you're not usually allowed at all to sell from stage. And so you're limited. You ought to travel two, three days for every engagement, usually at least two. Right? And you, it's got to stay continuing and your story and speaking has to stay relevant and you have to do all the work to keep getting booked and so forth. It is a thing that people do.But you know, there's a place to make more money and that isn't, that's to not get paid to speak, but to sell from stage. Selling from stage can be a whole bunch of things. There's the traditional, you know, rush to the back of the room and buy a thing or there's getting emails and having follow up so you can build a list and have a larger and larger subscriber base. And people that volunteer to get on your email list because they heard you speak are warm. And there's a whole process of building, you know, funnels and helping people move forward and move through that and develop no like and trust and so forth. So here's the thing. If your purpose as it comes from your story creates trust, it has economic value. It does. So here's. Those are all true. And that's how you, those are several ways. Multiple different ways for products, multiple different ways for coaching and teaching, multiple different ways for speaking. And there are many, many more. There's licensing of intellectual property. There's just. I have at least a dozen avenues to do this. And if you're interested in hearing all the avenues, just dream build, write it.com, go there. Dreambuildrite. It.com it's in a few weeks or if it isn't, if you missed that one. I do it a couple of times a year.It is about your story and your purpose, right? And it's how to turn it into assets. And I'll go over all 12 methodologies for you to make money with your asset, make assets with your purpose, how to pick your purpose and how to turn it into cash. Now for a minute, I want to talk about why people resist this asset language. Okay? Sometimes they get uncomfortable. They say things like, well, I don't want to monetize pain or I don't want to sound salesy or I don't want to use my story, I just want to help. You're fooling yourself. That's nonsense. You're not helping with that kind of idea. And the reason is it is most helpful when you organize it.People think, well, if I just get up and speak and there's a wild ass standing ovation and everybody claps I helped a lot of people. No, you didn't. You momentarily inspired a group of people who are turned on by the energy and truth. And I'm assuming your story is completely true.I'm not subtracting any of that. So you momentarily got all, much people, all excited. And you and I both know we've been to a thousand, I don't know, a thousand lots of events or lots of books, seen lots of movies where we just get, maybe we weep, maybe we clap, maybe we jump up and down, maybe we walk over hot coals and when we get home it goes to the back burner and nothing changes. There's a reason. Because that moment of inspiration is incomplete. It doesn't get rid of days, weeks, months, years, decades of programming and habits. You know that habits have staying power. I know somebody that calls it habit, gravity. They have that and there has to be follow up.And organizing your story into products and services is the followup. So if you really want to help, that's how you help. Charging for structured help is not exploitation, it is stewardship. When people invest in something, they're 10 times more likely to finish it. When you hear something once and even if you get all excited, people don't do it, you don't do it.If there's a structure of check in and guidance and encouragement and help along the way, then you can help them.If you, in your journey, your life, experience that third pillar of skills, gifts, life experience, if you have integrated a hard, stony, broken road that you have walked, then you can help me avoid mistakes. You can help me move faster, you can help me suffer less, get discouraged less. You can help me build better, you can help me earn more, you can help me live more freely. You can help me do that. Man, I want it. I will pay for that over and over again. And I have and I still do.And I don't feel exploited, I feel stupid when I buy a path and don't use it. I've done that. And that's why crafting it carefully with the right help and the right continuing contact is important. But then you and I, we have the satisfaction of really helping someone get to the gold line. That's worth big cash. Prosperity service with structure. Money doesn't corrupt the story. It doesn't. Misalignment does. The marketplace is not the enemy of service. I charge a lot for my private coaching. People sometimes ask, why do you charge that much? And the answer is, I don't need your money.I need your attention. And people say all the time, I'LL do anything to get this goal that they've specified. And as soon as I start outlining the steps, oh, man, I didn't know I have to do that. That's that hard. If they pay a bunch of money, guess what? They're in the game. They're in the game. I invested. I'm in.So if you refuse or I refuse to charge, you're limiting the reach of your gift. You're limiting the people you can serve. You're putting a cap on your purpose. You can wax poetic about your purpose all you want, and you're intentionally limiting it when you refuse to turn it into an asset. Okay, so here's some easy ways to think about it. Your story, your purpose can become podcast episodes. If you do a good job marketing those, you have a larger reach. If you don't have a follow up on them, again, you're limiting your reach. Your story or your purpose can become articles. It can become a book.It can become a keynote, it can become a workshop, it can become courses, it can become a coaching offer, it can become a certificate or licensing model. It can become a movement. This isn't fantasy. You know, people that have done this, you do. You can be next. It's not fantasy. It is architecture. It doesn't create itself. Okay? Movements are built. Whether you use, I mean, you might use several of these articles, podcast episodes, keynotes, workshops.I found the most effective way to get this started is to write books, which is why I have 24 and half a dozen more underway that are not now, but they'll come out over the next couple years. I have lots of courses. I found that coming out of a book is the most strategic way.And the reason's really simple, because writing that book is the most rigorous way to get it organized. You have to think it through. Why? Because the book's a monologue. And a monologue you got to think about, you know, how it flows, keeping people engaged, page one page to the next chapter to the next, etc. Etc. And doing that work is the most powerful way. It's also the easiest way to follow up.It's also the easiest way to build courses and programs and workshops and other things behind it, because you've done all the work organizing your thinking, your methods, your structures, your frameworks, and everything else. So that's what I think is the easiest way to do it. But any of those and combinations of those are available for cash.So if you're thinking, I want to help people and I wish I could make a living, you can. And this is how I've just told you how.If you want my help thinking through what the possible ways are to find your purpose and to monetize it, instead of having it just be a bunch of journal entries and, you know, therapy, then go here, dreambuildriteit.com so I can show you how I want to help you create the architecture. I think a book sits at the center because it forces coherence. The story is the source code. Everything else is built from it.The story becomes your purpose, skills, gifts, life experience. The story doesn't just live in life experience. You had the experience the way you did because of your skills, skills over here and your gifts.Hooking those all together is the most powerful way to do this. So your integrated story, meaning how you metabolized the events of your skills, gifts and life experience.Your story isn't just the things that happen to you. It is wound up in your skills and gifts. And putting those three together is where you find the fertile ground to choose your purpose. The book isn't a standalone, it's a source document. Your becoming is integral to your purpose. It is a business if you want it, and you structure it with integrity.Okay, so here's what asset thinking can do to your identity. It changes you. Okay, you stop saying, well, who am I? Why would anyone care? I don't know enough, I'm not ready. And all that stuff that you've said and you know you have, you start asking, who needs this? Because the this becomes real to you. When you think about it in terms of my life, it's all scattered. Who needs this? When you've done the work to make it coherent, written the book, you can easily say, who needs this? Oh, it's obvious. Then you ask, what can I build? Well, you've already started the book or written it.The courses and programs and workshops and keynotes and intellectual property from that are really obvious. All that's left then is the path. What path can I create? And what is the result? The outcome. Because that's what people buy. They don't just buy inspiration, they buy an outcome. I want my life changed. I want this and this and this to change. I want to be happier. I want to make more money. I want to get in shape.I want to feel better about myself. I want to fix a relationship.Whatever asset thinking moves you from self consciousness, where your vision's focused inward, to service, where it's focused outward.
