Nobody Pays for Your Pain. They Pay for the Path You Built From It.

Nobody Pays for Your Pain. They Pay for the Path You Built From It.

Your story matters—but your story alone won't make you valuable in the marketplace. In this episode, Kellan Fluckiger gets brutally honest about what it actually takes to turn your life experience, pain, failures, transformation, and hard-earned wisdom into income and impact. Nobody pays simply because you survived something extraordinary. They pay when you can use what you learned to help them create a transformation they desperately want.

Kellan breaks down the difference between having a story and building a business from that story—and explains why clarity, movement, structure, relief, transformation, speed, trust, support, and results are what people actually pay for. He also explains why your first product shouldn't be the first question you ask, why the offer isn't the container, and why the real opportunity is to build the bridge from where someone is to where they want to go.

Key Takeaways:

How many times have you been told by some ad or some guru, hey, you know what? I'm going to show you how to monetize this or that. I'm going to show you how to create big money online and you found out that it's a bunch of crap.Let's fix that right now. Welcome to the show. Tired of the hype about living the dream? It's time for truth. This is the place for tools, power and real talk.So you can create the life you dream and deserve. Earth, your ultimate life. Subscribe, share, create. You have infinite power. Hi, I'm Kellen. Welcome to your ultimate life. The last several episodes, besides the guests, I've been talking about how important your life experience, your story is. And you've heard that from a million people besides me. And so today I want to get to the nitty gritty about how you make money from the story.I want to talk in airy fairy terms about, you know, what you could do or what's possible and wave some hands or magic wands and make it seem like it's all easy. I'm going to tell you the truth. And the truth is you can do this if you want to. The truth also is it's not going to be simple. It isn't going to happen with the snap of a finger. The third truth is, even though there's work involved, it's possible for you right now. So let's start with this. Let me be super clear.Nobody's just going to pay you because you have a story. I spent last episode just talking about how important your story is and how valuable and how much you could do with it.And the operative word is could. Could. So nobody is going to pay you just because you've got a story. I don't care how amazing it is. You might. If you get really good and you get, you know, you get some guidance and help and you create a super powerful keynote, then you might get some paid speaking opportunities to go speak at some, you know, events or some association meetings or before different companies. You might be able to do that. But you've got to get a killer keynote done. You have to have a 60 to 90 minute, riveting, breathtaking keynote.I had a client once who is a CSP Certified Speaking professional, which is the highest designation of the NSA National Speakers association, not the National Security Agency. But anyway, and he was, he teaches people how to speak and he's spoken in 180 something countries and as you know, there's only 200 and something, so lots and lots of them, 75% of the countries in the world. And that means he's traveled a lot and that means he's been paid to speak a lot. That means he trained speakers and that means he's really, really good. Now you know what he said. There's three important things if you want to be a great paid speaker. Here are the three key pieces. The speech. The speech and the speech. So his understanding, view and experience from decades, literally decades of this work is that the speech is all there is.And that goes without saying, is your ability to deliver it. But even that it is mining your life for the right events, the right arc, and then turning into, turning it into a riveting speech. You're not going to do that by yourself. You're just not standing up and telling an amazing story about how you survived death and your death experience or you had all kinds of crazy things happen to you and then you overcame it. That's not enough. It's not enough because the audience has to take. Feel like they're taking something home. And that is what causes them to say, oh, best speech I ever heard. Best, you know, thing I ever attended. And when conference planners get those that in feedback, then that's how you get rebooked anyway.People don't pay you just because you got a killer story. They pay you and hear this because your story contains a transformation or change they want help creating. Hear that? They. When people want something and they think it's beyond their reach and they see you with it, it doesn't matter if it's a speech or a product or a service or a workshop, and they see in that the help they need to create something they not only wanted, but they felt like was beyond their reach. That's when they pay you. That's when they buy your products, your services, hire you to speak, let you sell from stage, all of that.So let's talk about how to get that done. You're Now I've said and spent a bunch of time talking about your story matters. And I said in the last episode, I was looking at the title, that your story is the most strategic path. And writing a book is the first step, the most strategic path to getting your first hundred K, which you can repeat over and over again, but only if you use it well, use it correctly and don't think that it's about you. Because the truth is your story isn't about you. Hear me? Your story is not about you. You're a character in the story. But if I don't Feel like I could do that. And if I don't see a way, or at least the opening or the glimmer of a way, it just is an interesting story. And then I go home, back to my life and whatever. Here's what the market pays for. They pay for clarity. In other words, most people sit in the middle of a struggle of some kind or another. And you know, you've been there, maybe you're there now, I've certainly been there. Sit in the middle of a struggle and they don't know exactly what it is.I had a. I had a brand new client tell me a few weeks ago, you know, I know I'm just causing this myself. I'm in my own way, but I just don't know what the problem is. Lack of clarity. So if your product, service, speech, whatever, provides that clarity, so they know exactly, they'll pay for that. People also pay for movement. So everybody comes to each day today, the day you hear this, the day you go to an event, the day you speak at an event, the day you sell a product, a service, a coaching program, a workshop, whatever. In the state that they're in, if you with your product, service or talk can move them.If you can create movement that is registered, not just feel good juice, because feel good juice, you know, runs out about as long as it takes to go to the bathroom and pee it out. It doesn't last. So movement, they pay. Clarity and movement. The third thing people pay for is structure. Because it is so easy to hear. And you've heard them and I've heard them positive, you can do this, and affirmations and here's the thing, and manage your time and meditate and all the rest like we've all heard that, right? And without a specific structure, we forget. Not because we mean to, not because there was anything wrong with the information, but there isn't a structure. That's one of the reasons I help every person I work with create a framework, a picture, an acronym, preferably both, that outlines or describes a structure that causes people to be able. That helps people implement the things you have got them excited about. The movement and the clarity. People pay for relief. Now, one of the easiest things to understand about that is often people are thinking, I'm the only person with this problem. I'm the only person that's feeling like this. I'm the only person stuck with this idea. And imagine. And I've had this happen hundreds of times.People will say, after talking to me, maybe it's an interview on the show yourultimate lifepodcast.com and if yourultimate lifepodcast.com if you want to be a guest on this show and tell your story, your ultimate lifepodcast.com There's a contact form. Get out. Get there and tell me you want to tell me. Tell your story on the show. Tell me why and how you help people.I love featuring you, each one of you that's got a story of overcoming and growth. I want to spread your message with all my heart. I do. So people pay for relief. People also pay for transformation. Now that's an overused buzzword.I provide transformation. What the hell does it even mean? Well, transformation, okay, Formation is the situation or structure something is in right now.In a transformation is taking it apart and reassembling it in a new form or structure. So, yeah, easy one to think of is your belief system. What you believe is possible for yourself, what you believe you're worth, what you believe you can actually accomplish or not.If we can transform or reform that belief, attitude, practice habits, dictators, daily rituals, how you use time, how you think about your clients or your business, all of those are incremental things to cause growth. And the bigger the transformation that you provide, the more value that you bring and the more it's worth. Now here's something that you have to hold in your heart. It's not to scare you, but it's true. You can see the transformation that you could provide because you lived it.Your talk or your product or your service or your workshop or your coaching or, or, or whatever form it is comes from what you've learned. It comes from the transformation that you experienced. But if we can't get give that to somebody, they don't. They won't pay for it. Okay? Now, we can't force people to use stuff, but if we can't give it to them with enough clarity and enough implementation guidance so that it will happen, then the transformation is dead and you're not worth anything. All right, here's something else people pay for. They pay for speed. One of the things I've discovered in my coaching is I can compress time for people. I can take 10 years off your first million. You want to make a million. You want to make it in 10 years or you want to make it now?I have done this enough, and I know now how to create a million dollars. From your story and what I talked about last time is the book process is the easiest way to get the first hundred k. But from that place, it's easy to multiply that by 10 and get to a million because, you know, the system, it's not magic. Oh, I did it. Look at that. I can do it again. This way. And this way and this way. Wow. Yes. Something else people pay for. They pay for trust. Now, the number of people that have come and gone in the Internet marketing space that were the gurus and the leaders and whatever is legendary. I mean, the number is, you know, who knows how many names have come and gone?Like anything, there are a few who remain trustworthy and they, you know, your list might be different than mine, but whatever. There are a few that are really worthy of trust. And people pay for that. I pay for that.So every one of these things I'm listing are stuff that I paid for. P. People pay for support. Okay?If you sell a product or service and you disappear, then, you know, inevitably people look at what you thought was completely clear and they say, man, I just don't understand this. And if, no if there's no way for them to get help or support, then the value plummets because they got stuck or stopped. The last thing on this list is results. People pay for results. You tell somebody you're going to double their income. They pay for it when they have doubled it or it looks like they're right on the way to do it. People pay for that. So do you. So do I. Those are the things people pay for. They don't pay for hype. They don't pay for feel good tokens.I got to correct that. People pay a crapload for feel good tokens. But then it gets frustrating and it doesn't last. And then it's like, well, I went to this conference and that conference and I listened to this thing and I was in the room with all these millionaires and they all made it. And what's wrong with me? And you know, that's not results, that's feel good Kool Aid.So your story that we've been talking about, your fastest path to your first 100k, it opens the door. The actual change that you provide, guide, teach, you know, help someone achieve that transformation is what creates the value, the long term value. Then the numbers in five, I'm sorry, six figures, and seven and above, okay? That's what happens. The actual change, the growth, the results. That's what people pay for and keep paying for.And that's what gains you raving fans and customers that come back. Nobody pays for your pain, no matter how amazing the story was. What they pay for is the path you built from it.When they recognize their own sorrow, sadness, failure, past circumstance, experiences. And they can see the path that you built. And they can see themselves on that path. And you help them walk. They'll pay for that. And they'll pay big bucks for that. Not just for the pain, not just for the path, but for the help getting it done. A story. Your story, mine, any of our story. And again, when I say story, talking about the story of your own becoming. And a few episodes ago, I went for the whole episode talking about what a story is and what it isn't. So go listen to that one.I'm not going to repeat that here. But your story becomes service when it is the bridge. And the bridge is from where they are to where they want to get. When your story builds that bridge with them, you're home free. Okay. All right. So your story, the story of your becoming the trouble, the fear, the doubt, the failures, the death, the illness, the betrayal, you know, whatever it is that you went through and then, and then overcame and have created something from it. That story becomes wisdom. Like real battle tested wisdom. It becomes your message. And I've said this often, and you've heard the phrase, your mess becomes your message, right? And that's true. It becomes wisdom. It becomes your message, it becomes your book, it becomes your framework, it becomes your offer. It becomes the path of transformation. It becomes impact and income. Okay? And I say that with all the love and certainty in my heart, because that's all that I do in my business.I create income and impact from the life I have walked. The struggles, the difficulties, the path, the frameworks, the tools I have learned, every one of the 24 books that I have written. And you don't need to write 24 to get started. One will work. But every one of them have come out of the story, out of the process, out of what I've learned. And then I've been able to turn it into something I can share and offer. So the story by itself is the raw material. I want to hear. I want you to hear this because this is how you get to money.Your story is the raw material. The wisdom is the meaning you extract and summarize and distill from that story. The message is organized wisdom. The book is the structured message.Remember, a book's a monologue, so we've got to structure it. The framework is repeatable truth that works over and over again in different situations. The offer is just a paid access to that transformation income that I create or that you do is value returned. Impact is service multiplied. Because Every person that you help, it multiplies your impact. So my goal, as you know, is to reach 300 million people with a message. Now, remember, the message is what? Organized wisdom. So the message I'm talking about is WIPOs.What I've learned in my multifaceted journey is about your worth, right? Your identity, your possibility, ownership and sovereignty. And we're not going to do an episode on all those things, but that is the message, okay? And with that message, helping people take their stories and turn it into income, I'm creating 3,000 millionaires. 3,000 Millionaires and 300 deca millionaires, which is, you know, 10 million. That's what I'm doing. And the offers that I have are offers to accompany me on the path to that creation. Okay? So the raw story, mine or yours, is not the business. The structured wisdom is the business. My program, book to bank. It is not magic. It is converting your book, your story, into a profitable business. The chain matters. If you skip links, the whole thing falls apart. So I went through the very specific steps that have to happen. All right?Creating a product is not the first question people ask, okay, should I make a horse? Should I coach? Should I do a workshop? Should I write a book? Should I start a podcast? Should I build a community? Those are the wrong first questions. They come, but they don't come first. And the reason is simple. I don't know what you're doing yet.The first question is, what transformation does my story, my set of experiences, prepare me to help create? In other words, based on everything I've been through, what I've learned, what I've overcome, and who I am now, what does that journey prepare me for? What does it allow me to help somebody build or create? Who were the people that would resonate with my story? It's not everybody. It's a certain set of people. It's a Good thing there's 8 billion people, because that means there's still many millions that need exactly what you offer. After you answer that question, what the story, the path that I've walked, what does it prepare me to do? What does it teach me so that I can share and help others? What does it prepare me to help others create? Then after you answer that question, then you start worrying about the form. You know, maybe your story taught you courage, and it could be many things, just using one right now, then maybe you need to offer coaching, because courage is in wildly short supply. People are terrified of being seen and have rejected and failing and all that. Sometimes they're afraid of succeeding. And so courage might say, I need to create a coaching offer. Maybe you need to create a leadership retreat.Because in leadership, and I see this all the time when I do leadership work, there's enormous vacuum of lack of courage. Terror, lack of courage. So maybe you need to create a leadership retreat. Maybe you do need to create a keynote. And with that keynote, what is to follow? Because even if you create a killer keynote and people are salivating over it, you know what the biggest question is that comes after that? What's next? What do I do now? Wow, I'm inspired. And if you don't have a next, you're done. Your relationship with them is over.Even if you got paid 25k to be the keynote. So there has to be a next. Maybe your experience becomes a book. I believe in my experiences. And yeah, I've written a lot of them, but my experience is the book is the most strategic path to your first hundred K. And the reason? Simple. Because a book is difficult to organize. Yeah, it's a monologue. And so it's got to be clear. Maybe your.Maybe your journey taught rebuilding after loss. You suffered some great loss. Illness, betrayal, financial loss. You were destroyed in 2008, although that's so long ago, nobody even needs to remember it. Maybe Covid wrecked your business. I was just talking to somebody the other day. That Covid literally caused them to short their door, shut their doors. So if.If your story taught the resilience and the power and the persistence you needed to recover a rebuild after a great loss, maybe you need some kind of a group program to help others, because there's millions of people who are rebuilding. Maybe not after Covid, but after personal loss, after betrayal, after, you know, a partner left him or ripped him off.Maybe you need to write a program or a book, and a book is going to be in every one of these because I think it's the best thing. But maybe you need to build a community where there's mutual support.I know a fellow right now who I was just talking to this last week, and his work, based on his own loss and discovery is I'm building a community to help a particular group of men do xyz. Why? Because his story prepared him for that. Maybe you need to create a workshop online, in person. Maybe your story taught business sovereignty. In other words, maybe you had a business and it went good, and then it went bad and you stuck it out and you created. Maybe then the product you offer is some kind of consulting. Maybe you offer a mastermind to teach the Principles to others struggling.Maybe you have a framework that then you use and guess what?In a book or in a training, every single thing that the, that the core elements of your life story taught you can be turned into product services, coaching workshops, speaking engagements, etc. And, but here's the rule. Do not choose the container. What should I build? Before you understand the transformation, Hear this. The offer that you have is not the format. That's the box. The offer is the movement. What is the movement that you're offering to share, help, create, support, or teach?Because people don't buy your course. They buy the future your course promises. Hear that? They don't buy your course. I don't give a crap about your course. When I hear people sell either coaching or workshops or whatever and they say, we're going to meet 12 times and I'll answer all your questions, nobody cares. Nobody cares. They want to know about the delivered result, the future that they don't have today that the course promises. And there's all kinds of ways to talk about that. This isn't the place to teach how to build courses, but I'm going to share with you a whole bunch of ways that you can do this. Okay? Here. Here's something to rivet in your heart. Tattoo on your forehead. Write it on top of your computer monitor. Service. Real, deep, meaningful, loving service is what creates rivers of money. And the key. This is the key. This is the key. If there is a the key, this is it. It's the key to your audience. People fear.Maybe you fear monetizing your story sometimes because they feel like maybe they're exploiting someone else's pain. You're not. You're not monetizing pain, yours or someone else's.You are offering the opportunity and therefore monetizing the transformation that your personal pain prepared you to serve. Your pain caused change empowered you to create cool stuff. Offering that cool stuff offers a path to transformation that is clean service. That is clean money. Money that you charge is absolutely clean when your offer is real, when the promise is truly honest.I talked to so many coaches or consultants even, or healers in 10, 20 different modalities. And the language is, well, it usually does this. I'm going to help you get out of your way. I'm going to help you heal some trauma from the past.I'm going to help you reset your mind. I'm going to help you clear the spells you're under, okay? And that's not the end game.Because even if every spell or block is suddenly removed from my life I have lived all my life up to that very moment, confused, blocked or barricaded by those spells or barriers or stinking thinking or, you know, whatever it is, that thing in my mind, the attitudes and feelings I've lived up to, there. Now if all of a sudden those blocks are gone, that does not teach me how to monetize, how to grow, how to serve. It removes the fears that I had.So the promise has to go beyond the healing. It has to go beyond and help them find a path to growth. Everybody can be healed. And what we're saying is, all right, you're healed. It's like a doctor, okay, the doctor heals you, gives you pills or, you know, antibiotics or whatever, and your. Your infection's gone. And then the assumption is now that that infection's gone, then you can figure it out from here. Most people cannot. Most people have lived with this debilitating set of mindset beliefs, stories for so long that the idea of I gotta handle it from here is terrifying or confusing or daunting or whatever word you want to put in there. We, as providers of these stories and methods and things, we've got to provide more to get the results that they're looking for, because the result isn't. I want to stop talking badly to myself. Okay, let's do this. You're a business owner and you're.Maybe you've got higher than you need turnover, or you've got deals you're having trouble closing, or you're not getting the income you want, or it's sporadic and goes up and down. And you know in your mind that you've got these barriers and you say, you know what? I'm in my own way now.If you suddenly are not in your way, you don't automatically know how to handle your people, how to motivate them, how to close the deals and how to do what you weren't doing before. All that's happened is you now know why you weren't doing it, and that why has been removed. But you don't have service, support, help to take it further. Now, doctors don't offer that, you know, that they give you the pills and whatever and you're better so you don't come back. And they think, okay, we're done, and they assume, okay, you got it from here. But most people do not, because the very lack of structure and support that they had before is still there. So that's why telling the story, your own story of becoming however beautiful it was, is not enough. It gets people Stuck, started. But if you want to be well paid, if you want to have real income, seven figures.Taking the next step, helping create the result they were looking for. I said a minute ago, if my business isn't working, what I'm aching for isn't, I need these blocks out of my way. It is, I need to get my income going.I need my income up, up. And so what happens is, well, I'm going to help you remove your blocks and then I'm going to assume you can get your own income up.Well, people have been living in that limited condition for so long, it doesn't work. And that doesn't mean the healing wasn't real. That means we didn't go far enough. Okay, here's a couple of other things.Money is also clean or worth it or valued is when the structure you provide actually moves them forward like we just talked about. The price is one third or one fourth of the actual value. The value is four, five or ten times bigger than the price. Money is clean. When we as people selling stuff, we're not manipulating at all. We're honestly loving and serving, including that next step. Charging for structured help is not greed, it is stewardship. Here's what I mean.If you've overcome this set of things, you have a obligation, I believe, an opportunity. I don't like the word obligation. You have a spiritual imperative, a real opportunity to turn that learning into blessing for others.I think we owe it to those that have helped us and to everybody just to be of service. So being of service cleans the money. And clean is just a word that I'm using that means makes it worth it. Okay. The marketplace is not the enemy of meaning. If our gift is vague, it helps way fewer people than a clean, paid path.I have people tell me all the time, well, I think all this healing and help ought to be free. Go ahead. You're going to run out of money, you're going to run out of business, and you're not going to help very many people if you want to have big impact in the world. My goal is 300 million people and then to create 3,000 millionaires. That's my goal, that's my commitment, that's what I'm doing.First breath to last every day. Why? Because I know that the path I've walked, the lessons I've learned, the frameworks I've created can bring that much value into the market.Okay, so let me give you some examples of ways you can turn this into money. Your story can become a 90 minute intensive examples. I've taught paid intensive on how to create time.I've taught paid intensive on how to create endless energy. I've create, I've paid. I'm sorry. On how to meditate and beyond that, how to turn the meditation into power. Okay.I've created money by creating a six week course, but not just to talk about something, but to teach something very specific. I just signed up for a course. So some of you know I'm a recording artist and I've been a studio engineer for 40 years. Okay. And I just signed up for a course, a seven part course. But there's an outcome, the promise of the course and I don't know if it's going to deliver or not, but the promise was let me tell you why your music isn't commercially successful. And the guy that's teaching it is one that's had 60 million streams and a bunch of other stuff that gives him the credentials to say that he can teach it. Now I haven't looked at it. I got week one a few days ago and week two just yesterday and I looked briefly at week one and it looked really good.It and I have yet to have the time or create the time to go look at my songs. And I have 94 songs in commercial release but I'm still interested in learning for the deliverable of commercial viability. And it's a seven module course, but you can create a course and people will buy it if it has an outcome. Maybe you create a private coaching package but it only matters if you have an outcome.I just signed a new client and our outcome is we're going to get his businesses to $1 million each. He has a couple of businesses so we're going to do a million. I have another client. It's been a client for many years and on the track he's on next year, by the end of 2027, he's on track very clearly for a half a billion dollar buyout. A 500 million dollar buyout. What a cool thing.Your path could create a workshop, it could create a corporate training, it could create a keynote plus follow up. In other words, opportunity to answer the what's next question.I have another client that loves doing retreats and what we've worked on is what would be the content of the retreat? What is the promise? Who are the people who desperately need the retreat? And the answer is always people just like you who are currently struggling with the thing you struggle for. You could outline in the framework, you create a consulting process. Okay, you can create Challenges like I do. I run a book challenge.Go right here if you want to see exactly what one looks like.Dream buildwrightit.com it's something I do twice a year to help you put your mind your life, figure out what your most powerful world changing story is. Write a book, turn, get it published. Get an Amazon bestseller. Yeah. And then turn it into an income producing set of products or keynotes or workshops. None of this is mystery. It's been done over and over again. I've done it and many others have.If it's time for you, then all of these things are for you. A 90 minute intensive, a five week group program, six module course. I like 12 module courses, but whatever.A one day workshop, a three day workshop, a corporate training, a licensing. I know I got a friend who licensed part of his book to a thousand offices and it had to do with sales. So it was a sales training kind of a thing.Keynotes with follow ups. I've done those and sold stuff all over the place. So every one of these things that I'm talking about, I've done a membership, a mastermind. The key isn't the format.
